Subject: Mailing Passports Outside the Country
Hello, I had applied for Canadian Immigration-New Delhi office and Iam currently based in the US. I had my medicals done in the US and had it sent over to New Delhi. If a passport request did come from the Canadian consulate in New Delhi, is it legal to mail/courier passports from the US to the canadian consulate in your home country or do you have to travel to your home country. Any info on this will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

No it is illegal to send your Indian passport by mail (Please note I have mentioned INDIAN passport).

You can either go to India personally when you get the passport request OR you can ask a friend/relative to carry it for you with your authorization letter. You will have to get the passport back the same way.

ask a courier which takes permission of minister of external affairs and sends the passport and enclose the letter send by chc. but taking permission may take a little bit of time. dhl does it in india.
