Subject: Health Q -- CMT. Please help!!
I have a mild form of CMT (a type of muscular dystrophy) and the only way one would know is if I am asked to show the doctor my legs ( very thin lower legs) during a medical exam or if I am put through a neurological exam. My disability is very mild and the only thing I can´t do is run or play soccer etc. Everything else is normal, i work out, climb stairs and do just about everything else as a normal person. I didn´t disclose it on the form. The question was :: "Have you had any serious desease or physical or mental disorders". Did I do something wrong and if yes, how do I know rectify it. I have already applied and haven´t recieved an AOR yet. Should I let them know and shoudl I say that I was just recently diagnosed. Would my application be denied?? Please help!!

You must let them know......if they find out somehow...and they usually do find out......you could be in serious trouble. Disclose the problem now and see what happens.
If the medical is very thorough, and it usually is, they will see your legs.
I dont think you will be denied...but I am no doctor.
Good luck to you!

Hi Johny: Well I´m certainly no expert, but I doubt very much that your condition will affect your application. There are several people here on this board with various health concerns such as diabetes, cancer (myself included), etc, and the overall advice has been very positive. So I wouldn´t lose much sleep over it. I would, however, come clean immediately. You will undergo a complete medical exam, and CIC is certain to find out the truth. It is much better to be honest (even if belated) than to be questioned about your integrity. You do not want CIC to think you´ve hidden information purposefully. I´m not sure what the process is in order to let them know now (a letter? a fax? hopefully someone can help you there), but I would do it without hesitation. Then, you can sleep at night and not worry about potential consequences of not being honest. Best of luck to you!

I think that the wording on the application "serious disease" is so difficult to interpret. My husband didn´t think that my previous cancer even fit that description, because it isn´t really life threatening, and is unlikely to return. Nevertheless, I answered yes, included an explanation, and let them decide. "Serious" can mean all sorts of things, and they must be used to various interpretations. Don´t worry too much!

You will be asked to take your pants off during the medical so you must not hide your problem, You should tell them in advance before they find out.

Ahmed,

Despite my CMT, I received my permanent residence. I had a strong prognosis from my doctor. As long as you can prove that your disability is not degenratie and will not get worse and that you will not become a burden on the Canadian health system, i think you will have a chance.
Bear in mind, you can´t say that if you have medical issues, you will pay for it. You have to get your doctor to say whatever problem you have is not going to get worse.

During the medical exam, you will be asked to take your pants off. So you can´t hide the problem and you shouldn´t try to also. I let Canadian Immigration know I had a mild case and my doctor ( who was a renowned specialist in CMT) wrote a very strong letter on my CMT will play out in the years ahead.

Let me know if you have further questions.

good luck.
