Subject: Work Experience Verification
  Hi everyone,

Can someone please help me clarify how can I provide adequate proof of my previous work experience? I lived in a different country, now have been in US for more than 3 years. I can probably get my previous employer to write a letter on my behalf, but the application form calls for a copy of the employment contract, and it would be extremely difficult to get it from all my previous employers. What proof is considered sufficient?

Thanks,

Nizami

I do not recall that the application calls for copies of work contracts. In my case allwhat I submitted were ref letters from employers. I think you should be able to get these.

Well, its reference letters he ´N" is talking about that he cant get. I could not get these letters from 2 of my employers as well because i am in America and i have no one back home to go there and get the letters, therefore i submitted a written explanation to visa office that i am unable to get the letters but at the same time i provided them the address of employer and the name of my supervisors so that if they want to verify it through some channel they have all the information. This is the advice given to me by an immigration lawyer in Canada.

Hi N...maybe you can try requesting somebody from your past place of work to mail the reference letter to you. You past co-worker or a friend maybe...I´m sure a lot of people would want to help...I am in the US when we applied for Canada, we also needed reference letter for my wife, and we requested some friends from my wife´s place of work to mail the said letter and they willingly did it. You might want to try it too. Employment contract is really not necessary...goodluck

Ooopps

In Appendix A (Checklist), under Work Experience, they require "notarized employment contracts from your present and past employers, accompanied by an English or French translation."

I think the requirements, for each category, vary a bit depending on which consulate/embassy you´re sending your application to.
