Subject: In Canada applicants- processing time variance
  Hello,
I wnat to clarify one point..if anybody has an expeirnce.I have heard that if you are in canada applicant and you have valid work permit..they don´t send you PPR until your work permit is about to expire. Is that true?
This happened with me in case of work permit..my work permit was expiring in oct 2004,I applied for extension in july 2004 just to be sure that I don´t go out of status that time bacuse my baby was expected to be born in October end 2004 for medical insurance etc.But they sent my papers of extension only in last week of october..they kept it on hold for 4 months.
Now in case of permanent residency, they have evrything..they asked for fee also, did my medicals long back, did rcmp clearnace..i think nothing is pending..but no PPR yet.If my valid work permit expire in JULY 2006,does that mean i don´t get my PPR till then?
If i lose my job by any chance..no one will give me job because my work permit is not open..so I am just lost for another year???

I can´t think of a reason for the different processing times. I was thinking that it dependents of your country of birth and the outside processing time. After all they have to go through the same assessment as if you were in your home country, but they also have to conduct a background check on you in Canada.

I know of three spousal applications in Canada that took anywhere from 9 months to 31/2" years. In the case of the 31/2" application the spousal was from Ghana and I notice on the CIC website that these cases take a very long time to process overseas, with 80% finalized in 30 months.

The same applicant from Ghana renewed his work permit and was issue a new one in October and was issued PR in November of the same year.

The two visa offices have different a mandates and the issuing of one should not have any bearing on the issuing of the other. You should receive your papers soon.

If you need help you can contact your member of parliament, they will be able to submit an inquiry on your file to find out what is causing the delay.
