Subject: Hi guys, I have a quick question... I a...
  Hi guys,

I have a quick question...

I am in Canada as a student...on a study permit...

my permit expired in August...but I have applied for renewal like 3 months before it expired...I had plans to leave the country...after I renew it ... so I wouldn´t have a problem in applying for a restoration of status...

anyways I also applied for PR long time ago as well...and I did receive my passport request lately....so I sent my PP to Buffalo to get stamped...and so on...meanwhile ... after I received the letter and sent my passport to Buffalo...I received my renewed study permit....(I received the permit after the expiration of the old one by 3 weeks...)...

what do you suggest....should I apply for a restoration of status in Canada...or I should just wait for my PP and then do the landing...

do you think it would create any problem for me while landing ...??

Thanks

don´t worry, you are fine.
The most important thing is to send all documents which are required for the renewal of study permit (SP) before it´s exipation date (actually by the law- you can even do it diring 2 months after the old study permit´s expiration date, but there would be a penalty of 200$). I´m a student as well and renewed my SP 4-5 times, and called the immigration to get this information (the officer explained it very-very clearly). The fact that you received the new SP in three weeks after the old one was exipred means nothing bad. The most important thing is that you sent documents for renewal before the exiration date!!!!
did I understand your problem correctly?
Good luck with PPR

Can you give us your timeline? when you applied and all available information about your case processing? it can be useful for many students who are waiting to become a landed immigrants.

I fact, after you land you even can (possibly) get your SP fee back, just call the CIC call-centre. BTW, what´s your time-line?

hell,
thank you for your reply...

but my question was about the "restoration of status"...

I´m not worried about my study permit...just the restoration of status...do I have to apply for it..or just disregard it until I land..

as for my timeline...
Applied: June 2003..
Medicals: April 2004
PPR letter: August 2005

I applied to renew my study permit in May 2005..didn´t get it back till Augst 2005

From my point of view you don´t need any "restoration of status" as far as you applied for the reneval before the old ST exired. You would need the restoration if, for example, your ald SP expired 2 months ago and you did not appied for the new one. That would be the case. For example, my old SP expired Aug. 5th 2004, but the new was issued on Sept. 22, 2004, given that I applied for renewal in June, 2004. Because I was getting nervous, I called them 4 times while waiting and the officer explained the situation, which I gave you in the previous post: does not matter how long it takes, as far as you applied before the expiration date and you were not deperted meanwhile. :)
Why do you think you´ll need the "restoration of status"?

Actually, if one applied for renewal already, one can not be deported before one will be given the refusal of extention letter. That´s what I was told by the immigration officer.
And the question: from your timeline- your medicals expired in April 2005, but as I understood, you were not asked to get the second medical examination. In your PPR letter, what did they say on this matter?
Our medicals (husband´s and mine, both grad. students) expire in 8 days, I´m worring.
Thanx.

well they didn´t mention that I need any medicals...they just mentioned that I need to send my PP along with Pictures and height and eye colors info...that´s all...

they mentioned that "we need your PP so we can issue your visa...which you have to use before the expiration date mentioned on it..."...anyways my e-status was not changed to "medicals received" till August 2005...so I guess they extended the validity of my medicals...

Thank you.
and don´t worry about e-client, it might not change at all, or can change after you´ll get your stamped pasport (happend to my friends).
Congratulations!
