Just watch CTV news, deputy prime minister said that doors are openning, there is possible that Canada will accept thousands of American refugees~~~~~~~~~

May be you dont have complete knowledge about refugees from USA. They are never US citizens, they are always illegal people living in US. And its not a new thing that Canada will start accepting refugees from USA. Canada has always been a safe place and easy entry for refugees. When USA started registering all legal and illegal aliens through SPECIAL REGISTRATION, that was the time Canada was flooded with illegal aliens from USA. Because most of illegal aliens in USA got scared that they will loose their savings if they are caught by immigration so why not move to Canada. And Canada accepeted them. Canadian border from Detroit is nowadays closed for refugees and may be they are planning to open it again. This is never going to affect the applications for PR. These are two different cases. So this is totally insane if somebody thinks that his/her application will be rejected because Canada has started accepting refugees from one of its borders with USA.DONT WORRY.

All the people of the US south are refugees or illegal people living in US.
Improve your knowledge Steve.
If they did, in my opinion I thing the total number of people may immigrate to Canada will increase, and since they are in urgent need to be saved, they will reject some or at least our applications may take longer time

Until we hear the details... I would not be concerned. They did the same thing with tsunami refugees. My guess... if any of these displaces people have immigration applications in the current system, they will be expedited.
Sounds fair to me.

You have to be compassionate in these matters. You are sitting in comfort of your homes, eating 3 meals, have a computer to communicate.
Most of these are fighting for their survival - sometimes it is not always about "me".
This shows the nature of a country. Canada is truely great and its people, if it has the heart to help these people. If the DP is talking that means it is majority of the will of the people. God Man!! US is the neighbor. In most of religion it is mandatory to help your neighbor in any way possible. Sometime it is not always about money and numbers. God forbid think if you were there or if you saw your relatives on TV in trouble?
If this happens, I´d be proud to call myself a future Canadian.

Starwars: You just answered Departure Bay´s question about why the US can´t take care of it´s own people--money and numbers. This is a major difference between Canada and the US; the Canadian government has compassion and a fundamental understanding that taking care of its citizens and offering aid to those around the world fosters good will, peace, and prosperity, while the US cares little for such basics unless the corporations profit substantially. The debacle in New Orleans right now is shameful at best, and all Americans ought to be mortified at the slow response of our government. Bless Canada for trying to help those who need it most, and may the US wake up someday and learn true compassion and humanitarianism from her northern neighbors.

we complain about Canadian taxes... but it helps us to be a caring country. They always tell us to be prepared for an earthquake and that you need to be ready for 3-4 days with no help from anyone. I now see why.
I watch CNN and I think I see a city that will never recover. For sure, some families will never recover. I cry. It is so sad.
