Subject: I need some advice.... (common-law)
  Hello:
My application is a common-law one(same-sex, inland ) I am being sponsored by my partner who is a canadian and I am mexican. We sent the application on sept 16th, 2003.
CIC started to process my case on march 1st 2004,
They said Medical results have been received,
Also they requested some infromation that I ´ve already provided.
They sent me a letter about approval in principal on june 8th along with the AOR letter and another letter addressed to my parter approving him as a sponsor.
I applied for a work Permit on June 21st, and they sent it on july 21st.
So far it´s been 3 months since they granted the AIP and they haven´t made the desicion yet. I called CIC and I spoke to an agent to know about the status of my application and she said they were just waiting for my Background clearance from the Canadian Intelligence.
I asked them how much longer it would take this and she gave me the most popular answer we can expect from immigration authorities::: IT could take as short as two weeks or as long as a year and half.
I know everybodys´case is different , but I just want to if somebody in this forum has got a similar experience or if somebody know about average timelines . I would really appreciatte if you can share your experience with me.
Thank you very much and good luck to everybody

Hi Carlos. I ask you not to worry it a matter of time. I think the lady in CIC told you about the time frame set by the CIC and the Canadian Intelligence but I dont think it will take longer time. so be patient at least u r living there with your partner, what should we say about it I am waiting for the Interview since FOUR Full Years.

Thank you Rhiad..... (in reply to: I need some advice.... (common-law))
Thank you very much Riad for your reply. I´ve asked some other people and they´ve told me the same.
I guess patience is the key of success with immigration. At least I am allowed to work and I am with my partner who is a great support for me.
I have the feeling that will not take much longer to get over this (I must keep my fingers crossed).
Thank you once again for your support...

Hi Fabrizio (in reply to: I need some advice.... (common-law))
Hi Fabrizio:
Dont´ worry about your English, I think you can find some information at www.cic.gc.ca about how to immigrate to Canada. There are some categories like Family Class, Skilled Worker, etc.
If you want give me your e-mail and I can share with you my own experience.

I think this common-law sponsorship is kind of a money-making scheme of canada immigration. imagine a $490 fee for an application that they will simply hold for YEARS until you give up. they are giving people wrong inhuman and false hopes. yet they claim to be a country that highly advocatees human rights. the government should eradicate this as an option for people to get in the country specially if the applicant is a tourist with no permission to work or study. BECAUSE THE WAIT is INHUMAN. If you call them and advise your individual case. THEY will tell you that it was your privilege to apply and it was a choice you made. Goodness, if it has been clear in the first place that the wait could wait for years while you are in the country with no permit to work or study, people could have had second thoughts to apply. But then when one scans the canadian website for info regarding common-law application, they make it look like you only have to wait for 8-9 months. you´ll be surprise that it wil take you years. they have not been transparen, the main factor that makes them liable of deception.
