Subject: Passport request after medicals have expired
  Hi:
I thank you for looking at this post and hopefully you can help me with these questions.

My Situation
I am the primary applicant on my family´s PR application. My medical expired in June 2004 but I didn´t receive any update from Buffalo till today. After my repeated letters and faxes I got a one-line response TODAY that they have sent me a letter requesting for my passport. I still haven´t received the letter requesting passport yet, just an email that passport has been requested.

0. Assuming that the request for passport is for immigration visa stamping.

Questions
1. Can I expect any surprises at this stage that the visa might not be stamped because my medicals have expired? Or is it a fair-assumption that they have granted me an implicit extension of validity of medicals (by requesting for my passport)?

2. How long should I expect my visa to be valid, if its stamped? Till end of the validity of passport (which is till May 06)?

3. Given that my passport is only valid till May 06. Should I be concerned that this might be considered ´too short´ a validity for visa stamping? Should I try to extend my passport now in anticipation of that scenario or let it be like it is to prevent any further delays?

4. Should I expect any surprises at the port of entry (if the visa is stamped) due to expired medicals or once the visa is stamped its smooth sailing from there on?

I appreciate your help in this matter and am thankful for your time.

best regards

Yes, a few lucky people were granted their immigrant visas after the expiry of their medicals. However they were given short window frame to prepare and land. Hence if you are lucky you might be given upto three months to land.Othewise, you might be asked to go for a second medicals.

Regarding the expiry of your passport, unless I am wrong it needs to be valid for another six months prior to stamping. However, you could go for a new one if the processing in your country doesn´t take too much time. It will only work to your advantage in the future.

hi seanimrod,

I was in the same boat as you are...I got my PP request long after my medicals expired (Like after 4 months)...everything went as usual..they requested PP and now I have it back...they extended the validity of my medicals it seems..

but I only have 4 months to land...

Good Luck,
Relax and it´s going to be a very smooth sail from now on
