Hello:
I just received my passport request from Canadian Consulate in Buffalo.What I wanted to know is that hos long will be the immgration visa valid?
My time line is given below.
Applied Feb 2004
Medical & interview done on Dec 2004
Passpost requested Sept 2005
My wife is in USA as an international studen while I am a student in Canada.
My wives US visa has expired but she is currently a student in a US university.
In this circumstance its very difficult for her to come over to Canada in the middle of the semester.
Hence is there any provision for extending the Immigration visa ??
Or else how long is the immigration visa valid for?

The expiry will be written on the Passport when you get it back, however, it is in most cases one year after the medicals, so it should be around DEC 05 in your case.

Hey Azfar,
Im in the same position. There is no way to extend the immigration visa (we have already tried that!) and it´s valid for a year after your medicals.
My wife is an international student in school in the US as well and must land in Canada before the end of Oct but her school finishes at the end of Dec.
There is something called "automatic visa revalidation" where a person with an expired visa can travel to a contiguous country (ie Canada) for less than 30 days and return to US without the need for a new visa as long as your stamp is valid and you ask the border person to not collect the I-20 in your passport. The theory goes that you should be able to re-enter the US.
We are putting this to the test this weekend.

Finally we got the passport back from Buffalo and they have asked us to land by November 4th 2005. My wife is facing the same problem as your wife.Her student visa has expired. Therefore I will appreciate if you can kindly inform me about your wifes experiance with Automatic Visa Revalidation ASAP.
