Subject: Custom Declaration
  Hi,

I have to following questions. Please reply as soon as possible.
I will be landing to Canada from US soon. I will be travelling with $10,000 (US dollars) as cashier´s check and $1000 (Canadian Dollars) as cash.
Do I have to declare above amounts to Canadian Custom?
Also, Is above amounts are sufficient for showing the proof of funds?

Please let me know.

Thanks.

You have to declair any CASH above CAN$10,000.

And it depends on your immigration class and family size to decide if that amount is OK or not. Ref to the CIC website foe exact req.

You do not need to show proof of fund as you are arriving as part of the family class.

However, if you are bring funds of more than CA$10K you will need to declare that to the customs officer or on the customs form.

Hi Katrina,

I am again confused. You mentioned if I am bringing more than $10K(Canadian Dollars), I need to delcare to custom officer.

I am bringing $1000 (Canadian Dollars) as Cash. The other funds around $10,000 (US dollars) are in the form of cashier´s check. Do I still need to declare to Canadian Custom?
Please clarify. Earlier, Saleh mentioned I don´t need to.

Thanks.

Hi Hemand,
As you will be bring more than CA$11K you will have to declare the amount to the customs officer. Whether it´s cash or cashier´s check or money order you will have to declare the amount. The value of the currency that you are carrying is what determines that you have to declare to customs not the type; cash vs. check.

Hi,

I have heard that bird´s nest can bring in Canada legally (as a gift) as long as the visitor declare it. Is that true?
What is the maximum value of gifts that a visitor can bring in without paying duty or tax?
