sorry charlie, you still have to go through the immigration process even if you get married, which is what i´m doing. i´m living with my wife (same sex partner) in canada, we were married here. i´m from US, and staying with her on extensions until I hear the outcome of my sponsorship application.

www.cic.gc.ca then go to sponsor family and you can either have your partner sponsor you inland (with you with him,) or out. inland you can´t work until approval in principal unless you can qualify for a work permit.

hope this helps!

Hi Kev.

Amanda is correct in that you need to make an application for permanent residence, either within Canada or from outside, as a sponsored spouse of a Canadian.

After receiving your PR status, you will have to wait a minimum of three years (1095 days in Canada) before being elligible for Canadian citizenship; the process for which usually takes another year, or so.

Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials, and, as part of the "liberal left" (and everyone else, for that matter), I would like to welcome you to one of the greatest nations on Earth! May your lives together be long, prosperous, and filled with joy.

Dennis

Again, congratulations.

People who are sp hostile towards homosexuals feel threatened because they´re not secure in their own sexuality :p

Kev, you got (some) good advice here. Good luck to you and your partner :)

You´re welcome.

BTW - As owner and operator of "e-canada immigration advisory" (now known as "e-crarer"), I had the pleasure of filing one of Canada´s very first SWP applications that included a same-sex common-law spouse (i.e., in the summer of 2002, immediately after the new act´s proclamation). Amazingly, Buffalo processed these two in under 12 months (WITHOUT arranged employment)! Furthermore, since that time, I´ve seen loads of same-sex couples successfully immigrate to Canada, most of whom report being very happy here.

The reason I´m mentioning these things is b/c I want everyone to realize how well Canada´s system can work, when given the proper tools to function. And, perhaps more importantly, that Canada´s immigration decision-makers are impartial in their case processing. Point is this - if you live in a region of the world where intolerance and ignorance towards sexual differences are acceptable, then you should really consider adopting Canada as your new place of residence because things are different here, atleast, most of the time (with the exception of Wow, and other like-minded dinosaurs).

Peace!
