Subject: Return to Canada
I´m a Canadian citizen married to German both living in the U.S. and want to move to Canada, how is it best to apply for my wife´s permanent residency in Canada? Do we need to apply in a Canadian consulate in the U.S. or in Canada?

Thanks,

Sam Qutub

Hi Sam.

The choice is yours, as you may apply from within Canada, or from outside. However, there are a variety of conditions and restrictions, as well as benefits, to each choice (e.g., within Canada applicants are supposed to remain in Canada for the entire processing period, and are not allowed to work or attend school without a work permit or study visa; however, after aprox. 6 months, the applicant is usually given an "Approval in Principle" which then opens the door to these permits and/or visas). Consequently, it is a decision that is best made in consideration of your own situation. Please see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/irpa/fs-family.html for a starting point, to learn more.

If interested, perhaps Crarer Law Office could be of service to you. We could explain the various programs, and help find the best fit for your needs. We would then provide you with the right tools and resources for drafting and compiling your application, as well as audit it prior to its submission with the Canadian authorities. If wanted, we could also act as your designated representative during your application´s processing. Our fees are very reasonable, and our services stellar!
