Does anyone know if you have arranged employment in Canada, how long ar you obliged to work at that job?

Hi Waiting.

You are not obligated in any way - as a Canadian (i.e., after landing as a permanent resident), you are protected by the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, as well as all applicable provincial and/or federal labour laws. However, it´s a good idea to maintain the position of employment until other, more suitable/desirable employment is found (the only reason I say this is b/c many new Canadians have a tough time settling in Canada, when unemployed, especially during the winter months...).

Thanks Dennis. One more ??, if I do get arranged employment, when do I need to work there? Right away or after I get my visa.

after you get the visa. Otherwise it´s illegal.

If eligible, you may be able to receive a work permit prior to obtaining permanent residence, which can then be carried over to helping you obtain PR later on. Otherwise, SG1 is correct in that you will need to wait until after the issuance of your PR visa.

Okay, last question.. If I do get an arranged employment offer to start working after getting a visa, what if I decide not to start working there (like if I want to move to a different location)?

Again, no problem. As a Canadian, your rights afford you the opportunity to live and work wherever you choose. However, keep in mind that it is an offense to misrepresent yourself on your application for immigration to Canada. That said, people´s intentions change all the time...
