the visit is over (a little shorter than anticipated for various reasons). Our time together was lovely, stressed... full of adjustment and full of nice moments.

I have a new respect for those who choose to pack up their lives and move to this strange place. I now know that my guy will take months and months to stop feeling like he is living on the moon. How we cook our vegetables, how couples behave in public, how you pay asking price at the store, how you shop for food, how you wash dishes, high speed unscensored internet, how our chicken tastes, how our water tastes... how our Coke tastes! all very strange indeed. The 2 great discoveries - french toast and dried cranberries! :)

We are hoping he can come back at the end of November for a longer visit. Our time together was not nearly enough.

Sharon: It is great to hear you are developing more insight as to the position of immigrants from other cultures. It would change the minds of so many of the hostile and closed minded people if they would experience the same.

Good to hear from you again Sharon!!
At least it is going great for someone on this forum.

I agree with Anon, a lot needs to be done to change minds. However it is a two way process - immigrants too must be wary of sentiments of the citizens of the host country. After all it is their country..

Hey girl! He´s gone back already? I hope everything is okay. I´m glad to hear he´s planning another trip back though :) Is his visitor visa good for the entire 3 months, or do you have to start over once he leaves the country and wants to come back?

I can´t even begin to imagine the culture shock involved. When one way of life is all you´ve ever known, it can´t be easy. Even the difference in North America from east coast to west coast is drastic. I find California a very ´strange´ place (the things they put on pizzas there, sheesh!) LOL, but at least we´re in the same continent.

Well, you sound ok with everything and upbeat as usual. If you ever wanna chat just holler :)

Welcome back Sharon. I went to see my husband for about 11 days at the beginning of September and yes the days goes faster than you would expect. I was missing him before I came back.

I have been telling my husband about the vast differences he will experience when it comes to food, but I guess he has to experience for himself. The spices that we get here are different than what?s available at home and the variety that he enjoys in Caribbean is not here.
Personally, after 15 years here, I have given up eating traditional Caribbean food, and enjoy a serving of poutine from time to time.

I am hoping that I will embrace more of his ethnic cooking style-definitely more healthy!

FW...it was a 90 day visa but single entry. He would have to re-apply. They suggested that future efforts would be easier now that he has proved he will return.

He called this morning to say he arrived home safely. with layovers, it was a 23 hour trip. Major jetlag. He misses Vancouver already.
