Subject: Ph.D years count as experience? |

Hello,
I´d like to apply to immigrate to Canada as a skilled worker. I´m about to get done with my Ph.D in the states. It´s taken nearly 5 years to complete. During these 5 years Ph.D students are usually paid to do their research. They are also required to teach undergraduate labs for 3 years. So even though I´m getting my degree at the same time I´m employed and I´m getting paid as a research/teaching assistant. I was wondering if this gets counted as work experience or is it inherent that working is part of a Ph.D degree and wont count as work experience points? It would make a huge difference in my application since I can claim 21 points instead of zero! I would greatly appreciate any feedback on the matter.
Thanks,
Sandy

(in reply to: Ph.D years count as experience?) yes. attach a letter from your supervisor.also attach all the TA contratcs and any other official paper you have.It may not be counted as full time experience but since you worked for 5 years, you will definately get a minimum of 5/2=2.5 yrs equivalent

(in reply to: Ph.D years count as experience?) Also provide a copy of your W2 for the last three years to show that you were paid by the University.
