hi all
Would appreciate any one with experience to let me
know how long I have to be3 on H1 visa to be eligible to apply for PR from buffalo .
I finished my masters in canada and am here in detroit since jan 2005 .
am I eligible to apply ?

I stand to be corrected but the way I read it, you need to be legal in the country 1 year. I do not read it to say that you have to complete one year. this is to prevent someone going on a visitors visa somewhere just to apply for PR from that country to avoid long waits.

don´t forget, you need letter from either your doctor or post officer who knows you well and indicate that you do live in here

Harp,
You can apply right away. The rule is that you have to be admitted(NOT lived in) into US for a period of more than a year to apply. Your H1 visa and I-94 card are sufficient to prove that you live in USA.
So get your application together and send it in.
