Hi, I am a Canadian citizen living abroad with my wife who holds a non Canadian passport. I am planning to go back to Canada, and would like to sponsor my wife so that she could accompany me. I got the application forms, and an information guide where I read the following:"You cannot be sponsored as a spouse if you or the sponsor were the spouse of another person at the time of your marriage". Before marrying my wife, I used to live in the States where I was married to an American citizen. Our marriage didn´t work out, so I left the US after making an agreement with her that she would file for divorce. I lost contact with my ex-wife, but I was under the impression that the divorce process was finalized. I, therefore decided to go on with my life, and got married again. Unfortunately, I found out later that my ex-wife never filed for divorce. As soon as I knew that, I got in touch with a lawyer in the US who helped me go through the divorce process. I am affraid this situation would put me in trouble in front of the law, and most importantly, I am wondering if my wife would qualify for a sponsorship. I would appreciate it if someone could shed some light on my case, or refer me to an immigration web site where I could get some advice. Thanks!

(in reply to: Would My Wife Be Able To Join Me.) Hm, intersting case...
I guess it is a good lesson for all other while divorcing.
I would contact immigration lawyer, pretty sure they would be able to help you out.
Good luck
