Hi i´m an Australian citizen, my fiance is Canadian, and he is coming here to Australia in December for a holiday.. we are also getting married here. We are going to be living in Canada (manitoba) for some time, and i am going to apply for permanent Residency. Do Australians (being a part of the commonwealth) have a faster pending time for their applications to be processed? I will be entering Canada on a 1 year working Visa also, will this give me time to get my application and all my credentials processed? I am 19 years old a Licensed practical nurse (enrolled nurse) i dont think finding a job will be hard and i nurses are very much sought after by the Canadian Government, but i am just really confused about what i need to do, its all very much to take in at once. If someone could help me out with taking the right coarse of action,it would be very much appreciated.

(in reply to: Australian applying for permanent residency) The one thing we cannot predict is how long your application is going to take. I dont believe that your application will get processed faster because of the commonwealth bond. However I strongly advise you to begin working on your application as soon as possible. You never know what creeps up and causes unnecessary delays. The earlier you begin to prepare (collecting your documents etc.), the better because you can begin the application process soon after you are married. I assume you will apply under the spousal category. For more information you can check out this url http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/sponsor/in.html
Considering everything works out smoothly, you stand a good chance of getting your PR within the 1 year (or less) that you are working and residing in Canada. Best of luck and congratulations on your wedding.

(in reply to: Australian applying for permanent residency) Mate you can get a working Visa really easy up to the age of 31. Australia and Canada have working holiday visa for people under 31. Easy to get. Plus in Australia you have to give 1 months notice to get married
