Subject: Moving to Australia - realistic?
  Folks,

I am a Canadian citizen in my early 20s who´s had it with the cold weather and would like to broaden his horizons a little bit. I am considering moving to Australia. I work in the finance industry.

One problem: I don´t have post-secondary education (i.e. university diploma). This is not to say that I am an uneducated oaf, but it´s obviously always an obstacle all around the world.

I´ve checked out the Aussie embassy´s website in Canada and it seems like I´ll be persona non grata with my qualifications.

Any ideas?

Many thanks,
Jonathan

We tried to immigrate to Australia about 10 years ago, things may have changed by now but after a year and tons of paperwork, we finally gave up. The embassy people were extremely rude, treated us literally like dirt and never followed up on anything much. In other words they were complete assholes, so their attitude did not give us much of an impression (who needs to live in a country with anyone like them around?). They also have a tough point system, although that may have changed also.
We´re planning to move to the Vancouver area, summers are great, winters are fairly mild compared to the rest of the country.

we need human resources. It´s warm here, only 3--4 times snow/year, min temp in winter is about -5--0c

why dont you come work in Australia for a year on a working holiday visa that Canadians can apply for? Did you also look at New Zealands? If you can get a resident visa for New Zealand you can then jump on a plane the next day and fly to Australia and work and live as a resident here.

3-4 times is one too many! To all three of you - thanks for the suggestions and feedback.

It snows only 3-4 times in Van Couver, interesting fact. But even if it snows less than a inch, life gets paralized in Van Couver. Everything goes to a stand-still in Van Couver with less than a inch of snow. Believe me guys, people from Quebec or Ontario, talking abt snow season, Van Couver is not just 3 hours behind us, they are 50 years behind in snow days.

hi...its defiantely hard to immigrate to australia...the point system is pretty much impossible to pass unless you have an in demand job or have sponsorship. - look at www.immi.gov.au for details
the australian immigration officials are bastards...ive heard sooo many bad things about them!!
im an aussie and looking to emmigrate to canada as i couldnt get my husband into australia...the embassy didnt believe eveything we told them etc etc...
however, its not impossible to immigrate to aus and i think theres quite a few jobs in finance so i suggest you look at getting sponsorship

i´m an aussie with an open skilled worker PR application to canada! as far as coming to australia, it would be easier to get a job offer. i would recommend new zealand, immigration is much friendlier, somewhere up north where it doesn´t snow.
