Subject: Planning to visit on personal car
  Hi

I am a landed Immigrant of Canada. At the time of landing last month i went in a rental car and listed my personal in the goods to follow list. I have got my PR and SIN cards today.

I am attending an interview this friday at vancouver and planning to go in my personal car but doesn´t want to export it immediatly, is it going to be an issue if i travel in my personal car without exporting it, as i have no intentions of moving permanently at this point?

I will be staying for couple of days. Please let me know if you have any ideas about this issue.

Regards

Landed immigrant can´t enter into Canada with US licence plate. You need to have Canadian regestered car. You did the mistek not exporting car to canada. Now you can´t export you car into Canada with no exporting fee. Its gonna cost you lot now exporting car into Canada.

Then what is the use of goods to follow list in this case. Don´t take me wrong but want to know does this rule is specified in any documentation.

Ramesh,

I don´t think that any documents says that you can import ur car later. I am telling this from my experience. I live in canada and travel to USA everyday for work tough I imported my car at time of landing and that time visa officer told me about this. Also I have once friend who lives in states and doesn´t imported his car yet to canada. Once he tried to enter Canada with his car, border customs officer didn´t let him in, they simply asked him to take U trun from border.

This is all I know. Hope this will help.

Sorry I don´t have any document of official info abhout this

Thanks for the information, what do you think about travelling in a rental car? Does it need to be Canada registered vehicle?

I appreciate your inputs.

Well Ramesh, travalling in rental will be good idea. But again its depend upon officer...if he/she lets u in..its good...but don´t worry just give a try. If he/she ask you about having rental car, then u can give good reason for that...

Good Luck

Ramesh,
You have a choice of not paying any import taxes on all the stuff that you get in to CANADA one time with in one year.
So long as you can show, that the car that you got in to CANADA was a part of one time move to canada, you are fine.
There is no need to pay the import taxes. As far as Rental car, you just have to show a proof that it is rental.
