Subject: Canada PR processing time
  Hey Guys,

I would really appreciate if someone can help / guide me through the following -

1. I am in the US on an H1-B (typical!) and am thinking of applying for Canada PR. I understand that I need to apply through Buffalo and typical processing time is 18-24 months (correct me if I am wrong). Does hiring a lawyer expedite this time in any way!? How much a typical lawyer charge to do the application?

2. I also have an option of moving to Canada within my own company. If I apply for PR from within Canada, would the PR Processing time come down? Is it possible to come on Work Permit and then apply for PR from within Canada?

Thanks in advance!

Ash

1- Yes 18-24 m and lawyer has no impact of that process. It is totally depends on the CIC office you are applying at.

2- You can enter Canada on work permit and then apply for the PR. This way will shorten the process but very slight.

However, having a job while you are appling for the PR would help a lot in your case process and assessment.

Good Luck

1) Current processing time from Buffalo is 18 to 34 months.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/times-int/02a-skilled-fed.html

2) Even if you are in Canada your application will still be processed in Buffalo, USA. If your company can offer you a job in Canada that is approved by HRDC then your processing time can be reduced a little bit.

can´t understand the %ages of cases finalized. Howe do we not look at the 70% and 80% of the cases finlized in longer time than 24 months. (i.e. 31 and 34)

Shouldn´t these %ages sum up to a total of 100?
any thoughts?

Information on Canada PR needed please help (in reply to: Canada PR processing time)
Hi Rachael,
This is Lakshmi.I´m currently located in Wilmington Delaware US.
We(my husband and myself) are in H1B.My Husbands job(Software Engineer - Technical Team Lead) needs him to be at Canada for two years.
We are moving to Canada by Oct 2009 on work permit and open work permit.
We r planning to apply for Canada PR i would like to know how long does it take to get first stage of approval(AIP)?
Applying for a PR after going to canada makes it shorter?
Heard that having a job offer(work permit) in hand makes the PR process shorter is that true?
Please advice us whether to apply for a PR from US or With Canada?Which is a shorter wait?
If we get AIP we both have a Open Work Permits right?we can work for any emploer we want to right?
Really Appriciate your help on this!!

Regards,
Lakshmi

PR Processing time (in reply to: Canada PR processing time)
Dear ALL,
Is there any slow-down in application review process due to recession in global economy?
I was intimitated by CIC to submit updated docs. by Feb 15, 2009 and I did.
The time frame for their response was 2-4 months when they ask to take medical exams etc if approved OR reject the application. I have not heard from them yet even after 6 months from re-submission!
Anyone faced this or is aware of reasons? Please respond. Will appreciate it. Thanks,
