Subject: Passport Request
I have a question regarding everyone´s posts here about passport requests. I am being sponsored by my husband for In-Canada PR and the document checklist only states a copy of your passport just showing name, expirty date etc. So my question is do they later ask for your official passport being sent in and if not why is everyone waiting for them to ask for a copy of it before sending it in? Same thing with the medical exam why do people wait to do that until they request it. Doesnt it seem that if you sent it in at the time of application that it would speed up the processing? I was told by CIC specifically to send everything in at the same time.

They do ask for your passport when they are ready to put the visa in it. . .at least for people out of the country. They want a copy just to know who you are, I guess.

As far as medicals, your visa is valid for a year after the date of your medicals. Most people wait because it gives them more time to use the visa when it finally comes through. Ie if you do your medicals before you send everything in, and your application takes 10 months, you will have two months after getting everything back to enter Canada and get status. For some this is not enough time. This could be a little different for in country applications.

If CIC is asking to send everything in...then do it. Every case is different with different waiting times for everbody. It all depends on circumstances.

Supergirlie1, from what I see online most of the users are Skilled Worker (SW) applicants and the processing rules are difference.

Although you sent a copy of the identification page of your passport, you will still need to present your passport to CIC for the issuing of the PR visa at the local processing office.

Because SW applications takes 2 or more years for approval and the medical expires after 12 months SW applicants do submit medical proof with their applications.

For spouses everything should be sent at the same time.
