Subject: Background Check
I have read lots about background checks, i was wondering if how CIC performs background checks. I am not asked to sign any forms or other documents for background check. Do they asked you to provide any written permission to do background checks; in my case i am not asked for such things.

If you applied as a skilled worker i think one of the forms that you filled out was a Background Declaration form with all your background information filled in and signed by you. Hope that answers your questions.

You do sign a waiver form when you submit application for the CIC to check on your personal records through any agency (which is any govt. agency or private firm, school, medical record etc.)

How it is conducted is something no one can claim to know - all we know is that CIC verify´s the information given on the form and also checks against any criminal record in a foreign country.

I cant guarantee it but I believe it would start right after IA. Why would they wait till your medicals? Hmmm unless they prefer not to proceed till they are sure of your clean bill of health. Cant really answer your question. It´s all just speculation. Either way we have to wait several months for this "Background Check" to be complete.

my thoughts: (I´m not saying I´m right though)

If I were CIC, I wouldn´t initiate the costly and tedious background check on anybody who has not passed medicals yet...or who has not passed documentations or who has not passed interview or who has not passed the point system....because why would CIC spend on something that might just be disregarded upon failures on any of the points above....so my guess is that background check is initiated towards the very last step....after you have passed everything...again...just my guess =)

One thing I donot understand is why CIC wastes the time after medicals on BG check. They should initiate it as soon as they get application. I mean there are several of us where it has been now close to a year since the medicals.

Second, if the CIC does not trust the Police Certificates, FBI document then why do they ask for them. I think if we submit a letter of no criminal background from these two source, it means we are clear of any crime in our home country and the US (I presume most on this forum are applying from the US).

I may be wrong but someone may point out the reason for almost a year in BG checks...

AOR: Jan 2004
Medical: Sep 2004
PPR Still waiting

I checked my CAIPS and got the following information. Have they received my background check? If they do, what are they waiting for?

Pi´s bchk sent electronically----------21-Dec-2004
Pi bchk RECD-----------------31-Jan-2005
BDEC: 31-01-2005
Medical StAGE VALIDITY: M01 09-09-2005

Another question is that I just noticed that in the page 3 of my Imm0008 form "List all addresses where you have lived since your 18th birthday. Do not use P.O. box addresses". And one company´s address didn´t be filled exactly correct. But it is correct in other place e.g. the letter from the employer. Do I need to tell buffalo in case the use the wrong address to check background?

I ask them why! They just replied with one single sentance. "Your file will be reviewed for finalization early 2006."

Starwars, I don´t see it the same way as you, why should they waste time and money on a background check before all other screening is done, the rest is at your expensive, background checks are expensive (in human resource terms).

I would assume police certificates help speed up the process, and there are many other countries than the USA and even though they may trust FBI checks they may not trust checks from other countries.

Plus they still need to check interpol and various other organizations.

As a Canadian I am glad they do the checks that would cost taxpayers dollars last, as someone sponsoring my wife I sympathize with you.
