Subject: Migrating from Canada to US
  Hello.
I´ve been living in Canada for little more than 2 years, Canadian PR and have Russian citizenship. I was really interested in moving to study to US. If anyone knows if that possible, and what steps should i take, please let me know, I appreciate any advise a lot, thank you for your time.
Dmitri.

US studies (in reply to: Migrating from Canada to US)
Hi Dmitri.

It is entirely possible for foreign nationals to apply for, and obtain, US study visas. However, unless you have an exceptional reason for wanting to study in the USA, I question why you would do so, as American tuition costs can be ten times as much as those institutions in Canada.

Hi Dennis, thank you for your reply, i apreciate that.
So you say student visa, but I mean i want to go there to study and live, ant not come back to Canada later.
I just found this UTI(Universal Technical Institute) and its really what im looking for in institute i want to study, and it has campuses only in US, and I dont think there any better in Canada. Well, with that student visa...would tutition costs be like for US citizen or they would be same as for international students? Or if you know any other way than student visa to move and study there?
Thank you very much for your advice and your time.
Best regards, Dmitru.

Beware of losing status (in reply to: Migrating from Canada to US)
Hi Dmitri.

I can only suggest that you contact the educational institution that you are interested in, and ask them what their tuition fees are.

NOTE: while you may be eligible to study in the US, it is less likely that you will be able to remain there after your studies are complete. Consequently, your student visa´s expiration may result in you having to return to Canada.

But beware - if you do not maintain your status in Canada as a permanent resident, which requires that you remain in Canada for 730 days out of every five year, then you may lose your residency status in Canada. Consequently, you would have to either re-apply for Canadian immigration or return to Russia.

Sincerely,
Dennis Caul

hey, is there anyone who can help me?
My fiance lives in guyana south america. he was granted voluntary departure from the usa in 2003. He must stay abroad for 10 years in the caribean. But he is also eligble to move to canada because of his educational background..he has his masters. He is currently a teacher. He was sent back because of his parents papers. At the time he was 14 so he fell within his parents paper work. How can he go about starting the process to immigrate to canada? He has said that he could self sponser himself, that is what he was told. Also, that he is in fact eligible to go to canada.
