I just came back from Chevron Gas station.
When I was filling my gas, just said hi to another folk who was filling gas at the same time.
We both complained about the gas price, I told him some tips which I use to fill gas, like fill at night, slowly,slowly and shake my car, something like that. I heard that from John Tesh radio show.
you know what happened next, that guy past me his home brew wine,
"goodnight sir" I just made this 3 month ago. asked me to go home and taste it, see if I like it.
I don´t know about any other people live in Canada. I talk to anyone. Like bus stop waiting for bus, on the bus, talk to chicks at cafeteria, clinc waiting room.
In Vancouver, nobody talk to each other on the bus, amazing?
you know what? in Nanaimo, after half hour bus journey, probably you have like a little forum here on the bus.
something like :" how´s your night?"
"good music show en?"
"hey, you look like David Letterman!!"
I remebered first time when I visit White Rock B.C. I just ask a cute chick past by, I told her that I am from Nanaimo, never been to white rock, any good music bar here in town. you know what? We drink and totally drunk at that day!!! I was so happy. I slept over on her coach.
I smile to all chicks who pass by on the street. Do anybody do this??
I remebered every new year day here in Nanaimo, after count number in downtown live music show. I just kiss unknown chicks beside me, come on, I think Canadian are the most friendly nation in the world. Something you can not use money to buy, that´s happiness in Canada!!!!

On my first trip to Canada, some 15 years ago, my sweetie (now husband) and I camped at a park in Whitby (that´s seeing Toronto on the cheap!). In the morning, we had breakfast in a little diner in Whitby, and the waitress started talking to us. She figured out by the smell of my cigarettes (hey, I was in collge...it was short lived!lol) that we were American. We talked; we learned her brother in law was in a band called the Tragically Hip (which my sweetie had actually heard of--they weren´t big in the US). The next year, we did the same trip, went to the same diner. We had the same waitress; she remembered us as the Americans and asked all about what we´d been up to. We were totally impressed.
Another good one:
During our first trip to Nova Scotia, we went to a Halifax bar called the Lower Deck. After we sat down at the bar, my husband left to use the washroom, and some guy sat next to me. He kept giving me looks, and then started talking to me. I thought he was picking me up, so I wasn´t too sure what to do without being rude. Anyway, we were talking and I told him this was my first trip to Halifax, and that I loved it. He offered to buy me a drink, and when I told him my husband was coming back, he cheerfully said he´d buy us both a beer! That he was so happy that we were visiting his home, and that we were enjoying it, and he just wanted to "welcome" us to Nova Scotia!!! Amazing. Anyway, we all ended up drinking Keiths and talking much of the night, and one of his friends who was talking with us turned out being golf buddies with a player on our new (at the time) NHL team back home in the US. Crazy small world.
Yep DB: there´s no place like Canada, and I only pity the people on this board who don´t value the comments made here about "life on the streets" there, like the experiences you have which you are always so kind to report to us, and which should give everyone here a little glimpse into at least one tiny area of this wonderful vast country. Thanks as always for sharing your story!

Before I came to Canada, because I am an Asian, I prepared the worst. Something like have be Bruce Lee everyday? So far, everything is fine; people treat you pretty nice, you can find out from both eyes. Sure, I beat rednecks before, once or twice, can´t remember, however they are drunk and keep saying shit to my partner or me.
I will say you have to be open heart, be honesty. Don??t assume white people don??t like us, visible minority. It??s not true at least in my town.
Talking about remembering name, haha~~I am not trying to show off, my neighborhood at least more than half know my name, because I talk to everybody when I am jogging on the street. Same as that coffee shop, they remember your name and order.
