Subject: Does a successful application expire?
  Hi,

Say i successfully apply as a Skilled Worker, how long would my successful application be valid (eg. could i leave it a year after the approval before entering Canada)?

I need to time everything right if i´m going to do this, so it´s pretty crucial!

TIA,

FMB.

FMB, once you receive your PR status you will have a limited time to enter Canada. You can enter Canada for a for a few days in order to activate your PR status and then leave to settle your affairs outside.

Hmm, thanks for the tip.

Can you quantify ´limited time´?

Also, what´s PR?

Ta,

FMB.

PR - Permanent Residence

This is how a Skilled worker immigration application is processed:

1) You send in the file to the Canadian consulate

2) They issue AOR(Acknowledgement of Receipt) or file number. Can take couple of weeks to couple of months to get depending on which country you have submitted your application.

3) After a long waiting period you will get IA(Initial Assessment). You will come to know if an interview is required in your case or not.
A) If interview is not required you can go ahead with the medical exam. Now the background and security checks start.
B) If interview is required you have to wait for a long time again to get a date for the interview.

4)
A) After background and security checks are complete and medicals are cleared you will get passport request.
B) After passing the interview and after background and security checks are complete and medicals are cleared you will get passport request.

After everything is complete the visa is issued. The visa is valid till the medical results are valid - the medical results are valid for 1 year after you get them done.

Therefore no one can tell you how long it will take for the whole process to complete and what will be the validity of the PR visa you will receive.

Hi FMB,

"limited time"....it means that the Permanent Residence Visa that CIC will issue in your favor has an expiry date...you need to enter Canada before that date otherwise you will start your processing from the start. The expiry date, as Kenny said, is usually one year from the date of your Medicals.
