Subject: TRV advice - tough question
  Hi,

I am in Canada as a student, my TRV stamp on passport has expired, and I need to go to India ASAP to see my sick dad.

I am from India, so I can apply after Im there or I can apply at buffao?

Any idea whats the best option, and what documents need for TRV? Do you have to show all the documents like when i got my first student permit?

Thx

Hi Srinivas,

As per my knowledge, I think if you have a valid study-permit thats more than enough to obtain TRV stamp. I think you can apply for TRV anywhere as far as that country has Canadian consulate and you have a valid permit to that country. I mean to say, you can apply from India or US (if you have a valid US visa) thats the rule.

Why don´t you contact the ISO in your school, ISO has to help you out. Ask your friend´s for suggestions, Good Luck man. Hope everything goes okay.

Hi there:
I went to India last year but made sure I applied for my TRV before I left (applied to Seattle). The thing is it takes over 4 weeks to get your passport back. I dont think you can get back into Canada on your study permit. To apply from Canada, I think you need bank statements showing how much money you have & if you have enough to support you during your stay in Canada, letter from school saying you´re enrolled & what program & how long will it take to complete, copy of your study permit, your passport etc. Check the visa office specifications for documents that you need. You can also apply for your TRV from India, but not sure what the specifications are to apply from there. It might be more complicated than applying from here. Sorry to hear about your dad and good luck.

Oh and one more hting...you dont need a US visa to apply in the states. Just send your application package to Buffalo or Seattle and you should be fine. The only thing is it takes 4-6 weeks to get your passport back. Check the cic website for more information. Dont forget to check the visa office document requirements. Seattle requires different documentation than Buffalo does - so check it out thoroughly.
