I do not. Majority of the people do not have any attorneys. It is a waste of money if you follow the instructions and spend some time doing the detailed work. In USA you absolutely need an attorney, but not for Canada.

I didn´t have any attorney. Moreover, my case has been approved some time in July 2005.

Hi Jean,

Please visit the following link and download the Federal Skilled Workers guide and read it very carefully. The process of applying as a Skilled worker is explained in detail.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/applications/skilled.html

At present the application fee is CA$550 or US$465. When you finally plan to send you application kindly check to folowing website to reconfirm the fees.

Hi Manoj,

I used a lawyer to file my case for Canadian immigration. But I personally feel that the process is very simple and can be easily done on your own.

Why dont you download the Skilled worker immigration guide and see if you are comfortable doing it yourself.

Depends to which visa office u intend to apply. I think in India, most wud have gone thru´ a rep or attorney. The visa office here is of no help - there r no replies to queries, no telephone helplines, nobody to address yr problem or query (if u have any). Though the reps r not of much help once u have applied (after filing one just has to wait), but they do give their input while u r initially filing your application - its a lot of paperwork so its better to have somebody to guide u with it.

I know people might just say that u can look at the site and fill in the forms. Its not that easy - there r so many documents to be arranged and forms to be filled. Even if one of them is not filled properly or the supporting document is not arranged/missing - it can lead to delays or interviews. However, if you have all the necessary documents in place, then u can surely proceed on your own.

One thing to ponder about is - if people were so sure about all the forms and documents, then u wouldn´t find so many posts asking for more info and receiving varied responses.

So my suggestion wud be don´t leave anything to chance - if u have the documents proceed. If u feel u might get stuck - then hire a rep just to file yr case and do the follow up on your own.

However, if u hire an attorney, u r placed slightly better when u r required to appear for an interview as the attorney can accompany and answer questions on your behalf.
