  hey there...

where are you at currently VJ? only sponsorship approval? or more?

I mean they received my app sept. 05.. i was just curious as to since it?s sent to vegreville and they say they are only at march, will i have to wait 7 months until they get to sept and then another 6-7 for PR?(which would put me at over a year wait) or 7 total

Thanks

I got mine, but I applied in-Canada in Feb. It will come, give it time! Do you mean Sept. 05? In which case you will have to wait a while! If you mean 04 you should have it by now!

I got AIP the other day, but it´s Quebec based so it has taken 2 months more than it should´ve done (9 months instead of 7). The AIP says I can apply for a work permit but I already did that about 6 weeks ago so I´m hoping it won´t take too long. You´ll have to wait at least 7 months as you´ve only just applied and they´re only up to the beginning of March (I applied in January 05). After that you will get AIP and then you can apply for a work permit which takes up to 2 extra months. So it´s 7 months in total for AIP and a bit more to be able to work (either via a work permit which you´ve applied for, or if you get an interview to finalise your PR a few weeks after AIP - might still happen to me, fingers crossed!).

Hope that makes sense. It´s hard, waiting with no job... what are you doing to pass the time? Good luck!

Wait, wait! Vegreville is a one step process so they basically open your envelope and grant it on the same day. The timing for ´processing applications´ on the CIC website is how long it takes for them to get around to processing it, i.e. how long it takes after you send it until they open it and grant you PR. See? So it´s 7 months from when you sent it (now 6 months, as it´s October) and then you will get AIP. Not 7 months from when you sent it and then another seven months until you get PR.

You can volunteer, by the way. I found after a few months I was really going crazy so go to a charity or something and help out. You can´t do anything that means you´re taking the place of a Canadian, but try and get some of that invaluable Canadian experience so you have something on your resume for when you can start work again. Not sure you´ll wanna go for walks when it´s winter, unless you´re in BC!
