Subject: My interview in Detroit an Unexpected experience
First of all thanks to every body on the forum especially Joe05 for his valuable inputs regarding interview in Detroit. When i reached for the interview the Consulate´s lounge was full with lots people waiting for visitor visas. There were only few applicants including myself for immigration interview. Anyways i was called in exactly an hour late than scheduled time. The visa officer was a very pleasant person with a smile on her face. It took her around 3 minutes to excess my file on her computer. Then she said that she will handover my documents to me and at the same time will ask the questions related to that document she is handing over. Then she asked questions about each and every document i submitted like when did i finish my eduction when she gave my original Master´s degre to me. I did not do IELETS and she did not even talk about it. In support of my english language i provided her the letters from all of my university professors. And they worked. After she was done with all the documents she gave me a shocking news. She said that I AM SELECTED BUT they will be performing an extended background check on me which will take from 6 months to a year. I asked her why there is a need to do an extended background, you know what she said? She said we received an anonymous letter from somebody stating that i have some kind of criminal background. I was shocked but i said to her that how is possible to get a clearance from Police if i have a criminal background. She said< i dont know how it happens in your country. I said it does not happen and u can go ahead and do background check, i m not worried about it. What i m worried about is the time only 6 months to a year. She said i might be required to do my medicals again if their background check is not completed on or before the expiry date of my medicals which is august 2006. I did my medicals in late august and i m sure she has received my medicals because she told me that your medicals are expiring in august and you should wish that process is complete before august. I did not tell her when did i do my medicals thats why i assume that they have received it. My e-status does not say any thing about medicals. Anyways in the end she said i should submitt my police clearance as soon as possible. And she said i can ask the status of my file time to time sending them a fax or writing a letter. this is all about my interview. I would appreciate your comments. Thanks

Hi Steve: That´s just awful. Who in their right minds would be so canniving as to send an anonymous letter? Is there somebody who´s just out to get you? Could it have been done out of jealousy? So sorry you have to go through this. I wish you the best and hope you will be done with your process soon. Say, of what nationality are you?

I find it funny that they would receive an anonymous letter.
Maybe there was NO letter but they said that to delay the process. Maybe they are close to reaching the quota and this is a way to slow some applications down.
I hope it all works out.
GOOD LUCK

Hey there steve! Well, I don´t know what to say. It´s terrible, who would do something like that, maybe jealousy people? Problems with anyone in the US? I´m sorry. It´s great that you are "approved" but the letter sucks!

Hi Steve...first of all congratulations...technically you passed the interview!!!! that´s one reason to celebrate and give thanks.

I wonder why CIC would entertain an anonymous letter. My advise to you is to go ahead and process your country´s police clearance. Please make sure that the police clearance you are getting is the national one and not the regional. When you have that police clearance, send it to Detroit addressed directly to the visa officer that interviewed you and put Police Clearance on the envelope so she would know what it is about.

I´m sure it will be alright. Let´s just hope background check will be finished early next year....just keep praying...don´t lose faith....

Congratulations again!!

Poison pen letter (in reply to: My interview in Detroit an Unexpected experience)
Hi Steve,

Thanks for sharing your interview experience and I am very sorry to hear about your experience. The letter immigration officials have received regarding you is called a "Poison pen letter".

Poison Pen letters are received by Immigration regularly. The officer usually examins the case to determine whether any of the items are true.

I am not sure about this but I think that you can request your CAIPS notes and find out the details of the letter.

You are right Kenny because visa officer told me that they receive this kind of letter every day. Please let me know the complete process of requesting the CAIPS notes. And please tell me what kind of details i may get about the letter from CAIPS notes. Thanks for your comments.

I´ve heard that although you may find entries related to PP letters in caips but the details are usually hidden. But there is no harm in getting your caips and see if you can find some info.

Hi...I am not so sure too about the CAIPS but chances are CAIPS will only indicate that Background check is still ongoing...the reasons might not be there....you might probably find something if you will request the entire file ($125)...your file might (not sure here) contain a copy of the letter.....however, what will it do? it´s not like CIC will entertain a defensive letter from you...better to just wait for your police clearance and submit it right away to CIC.

here´s the website of CAIPS just in case you still want to try it.... www.caipsnotes.com

goodluck

Guys, Guys , Guys

Shocking as it is, it reflects one dark side of human nature. you just have to be jealous for doing something like this.

One lesson we all should learn. Keep your application and any other immigration related information a secret !

don´t tell ANYONE about your pending application. No one except your immediate family should know this. I would say even keep your extended families out of it.

Invite them all for a treat after you finish your process :)
