hello, i want to know whether it would be easier for me to go to canada under the tourist status then apply to canadian citizenship whyle im in canada under the worker programm

1. would my application get processed faster?

2.would i still need the $10000 required to prove i can settle to canada since im already in canada living with my uncle? i would think it would be waived since im already settled in montreal

are you talking about a visitor or a work visa? if it is a work visa, you must know you will be in Canada for 1 year to apply through Buffalo. The wait appears to be about 2 years. You get your work permit in your home country before arriving in Canada.

1.no, your immigration application does not go faster with a work permit

2.if you have a HRDC approved job with your work permit, you do not need to prove funds.

However... if you think you will come to visit your uncle and simply stay and apply for immigration - it does not work that way. First, you must prove to CIC that you will not overstay your visitor visa. You will be required to apply in your home country as a skilled worker and be available for an interview. You will also be required to prove you can support yourself when you get to Canada - by having $10,000. Having an uncle in Montreal only gives you 5 points- no special treatment and no waiver of funds.

If you are found to be illegally staying in Canada, you lose your chance for immigration for a long time. I think it is 5 years. see www.cic.gc.ca to determine what is required for you to immigrate to Canada.

Great advice by Sharon. The only thing I would add is, are you talking about citizenship or permanent residence? They are not the same thing! You cannot apply for PR while on a visitor´s visa and you definitely still need the funds. The only time funds are waivered is for family class sponsorship (spouse/common law category).
