Dear Ahmad,

You must have to stay in Canada until you receive(Aprx 30 days) your PR card. However, If its not possible for you to stay for 30 days, you may submit an application for a temporary travel document by mail to a Canadian visa office in the location that you will visit. To be eligible for Canadian citizenship, you must have lived in Canada for at least three years (1,095 days) out of the four years preceding your application. Moreover, there is no problem if you want to stay back home for 8 months.
I would suggest you to wait for your PR card unless you have any genuine urgency.

Hi Ahmed,

When you land in Canada as a PR you will have to provide the immigration official with an address in Canada where they can mail you PR card. If you have a friend or relative in Canada you can give his/her address. You do not have to stay back in Canada just for the PR card. Your friend or relative can mail that to you.

To maintain your PR status you have to live in Canada for a period of 2 years out of 5 starting from the day you land in Canada. So there will be no problem if you leave Canada for 8 months after landing.

"(1) Canadian immigrant visa and Confirmation of Permanent Residence for each family member travelling with you;
(2) valid passport or other travel document for each family member travelling with you;
(3) Two copies of a detailed list of all the personal or household items you are bringing with you; and
(4) Two copies of a list of items that are arriving later.

Note: The lists should state how much your personal and household items are worth.

You must also bring with you enough money to cover living expenses such as rent, food, clothing and transportation for a six-month period. You may be asked to show proof of your funds.
Do not pack your documents in a suitcase. You will need to have them available to show to immigration and customs officials."

Kenny,

One of my freind used the same procedure(mail), and his mail was lost. So, its not a good idea to take chance. You have no idea how mail system works in countries like Pakistan and India..., Secondly, its not true you said after two yrs one could apply for Citizenship check this out!

Hi Rana,

I am from India so I know how the mail system works there. When mailing such an important document it is a good idea to spend some extra money and use FedEx, DHL or UPS. So if your friend used the postal service then I am afraid he took a huge risk.

It appears that you did not read what I said carefully. I said "to maintain your PR status you have to live in Canada for a period of 2 years...". I was not even talking about citizenship as maintaining the PR status seemed to be the primary concern of Ahmed.

Hello Kenny,

I am sorry to being slightly offended. Yes, you´re right, I didn´t read your post thoroughly. Certainly, at this point I am not sure, which courier service my freind had used. However, mail PR card to your back home would be a risk, lets say if you face a 5/100 chance of losing, its mean you´re going to take chance. Once again, I urge him to wait for PR card unless he has any urgent condition. Moreover, this risk might be so extent the effort to do anything is not worth while.

Hi Rana,

No problem buddy. I agree there is some risk involved in mailing the PR card but at the end of the day its Ahmed´s decision. So lets leave the decision to him.
