Subject: Can I marry my brother in law
Hi, I was in love with a man, he sponsored me as a p.r. under spousal category outside canada, after a year of hell and misery I have decided to divorce him, now his younger brother wishes to marry me and I feel he truly loves me, my question is can I marry and sponsor his younger brother, will cic create a problem as he is the younger brother of my divorced husband, will they look at it in a bad way. How long will the procedure of divorce take? please help me. Thanks everybody

You can do it. Heads up tho, CIC might take a long time with your case. They´ll say it´s complicated.

Because of the circumstances if you get married to your brother-in-law it will look like a marriage of convenience. As mentioned this case will take a long time to process and you will definitely be called for an interview.

But if you are in love with this guy then nothing should stop you from marrying him. I will recommend that you hire a professional to prepare your case.

I am with Kenny on this. You have overlapping sponsorships happening, divorce dates, (in Canada it takes 1 year for a divorce to be finalized), the situation looks very complicated. You need a good lawyer and you need to be 100% truthful. You also need to be prepared for more questions and wait than you want.

good luck.

Sharon, my divorce took a little over 3 months to finalize. That´s in Canada.

If you are in Canada Depressed, I can tell you who I used.

In Ontario it looks like 3 months. (if everything is straight forward and uncontested) BC is 1 year from filing.

Dhruva,

I agree with Kenny..sounds like it will give them/CIC an impression that the marriage is for the convernience sake.

I am not here to advice about the procedure nor to tell you what to do. But I found your posting quite amusing! You mentioned here that you feel he truly loves you! It seems to me that you are not so sure yourself judging by the statement.

Sorry if I am judgemental that way but somehow or rather I got the impression that your brother in law tries to ´use´ you as a back-up plan for him to be sponsored. Maybe I am wrong.I do not know. If you love him and he loves you, you would say it differently.

My point is, even if I was the officer from CIC, I would think the same. Simple as that. Your situation to be honest is rather ´suspicious´ to begin with but still you can go on...
