Subject: fingerprinting in the U.S
hey i need some info about the fingerprinting stuff..

im suppose to leave the country on the 15th of november, and want to get the fingerprinting done before i leave this country and continue with the canadian immigation stuff..

so when i go to my local police department, all i have to tell them is"im here to get my fingerprinting"? then what? are they going to ask me a bunches of question? like my U.S status etc etc?
and also,is the fingerprinting done right then? if so then what? do they give me my fingerprint stuff then i have to mail it to the fbi office so they can process it?

i just need to be clear on how do i proceed and doing that and what to expect from first of all- going to a local police department.

You need to go to the local police station and tell them that thay you want to do finger prints for canadian immigration......because they have different kind of finger print cards for different purposes. They will ask you avalid I.D whether it is your driver licenece, your state I.D or your passport. Because they will put the identification on the card like your passport or D.L no. and name etc. They dont care whats your status in USA and they dont ask any question. Once you have the card, mail it to FBI with a money order or check of 18 dollars and write a letter stating why do you need a Clearance from FBI. Remember you should state your purpose as cnadain immigration in both finger print card and cover letter and you may put a deadline on your cover letter that you need it urgently and they will process it faster. And send it back to your address within 3-6 weeks. Thats it.

Hi,

Here´s the link to FBI to know their rules and procedures etc. There is also a downloadable FBI fingerprinting card that you can choose to dowload or at least you can have an idea how the fingerprinting card looks.

http://www.fbi.gov/hq/cjisd/fprequest.htm

I suggest you call your local police first because sometimes they don´t have the FBI card form. If this is the case you will need to request from FBI (to inquire call # 3046255590)..or as I have mentioned you can download the form from the link above...download it in a harder paper like a stock card or something...

One TIP...once you have your fingerprinting done, make sure that you put a DEADLINE DATE in your cover letter to FBI and on the envelope so that FBI expedites your application...with no deadline date your fingerprinting results can take up to 6 or more weeks.

goodluck

Hi ugly dude,

Like mentioned above first go to your local police department and tell them that you need fingerprinting done to get FBI clearance for Canadian immigration.

If you have any problems and if you dont mind spending some extra money (approx $20-25) you can go to a private fingerprinting agency. They have the FBI card so you dont have to worry about that. You can search for these agencies in your local yellow pages or on the internet.

Like Kenny said, the private fingerprinting agency works just fine and i got my FBI reports. These police depts. can be a little uptight at times. I had gone to the local police website and they had posted that they dont do fingerprinting for immigration purposes. This might be not the case in your area but paying $20 is worth avoiding the hassle.

FBI clearance (in reply to: fingerprinting in the U.S)
I have received medical exam notice from the Canadian Visa office fro my Skilled worker immigraton applicaton. they have also required me to provide an updated FBI clearance. I lived in USA before. When communicating with FBI, they have sent me an offical certificate indicating that "A search of the fingerprints on the above individual has failed to disclose prior arrest data" but they didn´t stampe "no record" on the back of my fingerprint card ,which has also returned to me. I don´t have any criminal record which has stated on that FBI clearance, I am just wondering whether I can still send that clearance certificate to the Visa office for processing

Denied fingerprint in upstate NY (in reply to: fingerprinting in the U.S)
Today I went to get my fingerprints done at a local police station in Schenectady, NY and because my U.S Immigration work Card was expired for two weeks, they denied me the fingerprints and said I need to bring a new card showing my status. The officer also said no one will issue me a fingerprint card unless I prove I am legally in the U.S. I have applied for papers in Canada and need the fingerprints done by the FBI. I will look into a private agency.
