  On Background Check:

I´d be the last to say this, but the more I read, the more I gather that CIC is also fallen in the same old trap to stero-type applicants.

Those who originate from Asian countries (including the Middle-East), or have worked for extensive periods are prone for these long and never ending BG checks.

Oh come on, do you expect the professionals, who are always on the move to cut oppertunities in the Gulf, simply if they have any intention to work in the Middle East?

For many Asians (esp. professionals from India, Pakistan, SL and Bangladesh), the Gulf is a luctrative destination. There is about no one who will say a no to go work there, and mostly for world renouned companies which have legitimate operations.

CIC is ought to find a way to base their decision on a profile of an applicant rather than just because they happen to be a place. For e,g, they should see where and what the person was doing, their education and gaps - these should be the cause for red-flag, and not simply the fact that an applicant was in this Asia region for work.

Ah.. well.. CIC may hear, or not.. the fact is we still have to wait..

starwars... I have heard from a consultant that the highest incidents of fraudulent documents come out of the countries you mention.

I have heard the same thing about the fraudulent documents......WAITING is part of the process.....we all know before we get into it that we have to wait....some can do it better than others.

Me, well said.

Let´s see, currently the middle east is a hot bed for terrorist activity and also has the highest instances of fraudulent applications, it makes sence to do extra screening. If these countries don´t redily respond to inquirys made by CIC and it takes FOREVER to process that isn´t CIC´s fault, blame the country that is holding up the process.

Canada´s number one priority is to protect canadians I doubt you´re a threat to canada but in the end you´re just another of thousands of applicants in a pile(so am I). There is no way for them to know if an application is sincere without doing these checks. I want canada to remain a safe country and fully support background checks.

I tend not to agree with Starwars that anyone from those countries (India, et al) will NOT say No to work in Middle East. I know of many, including myself, that will not work in middle east. Nothing against the region, just not where I want to be!

Well I agree to the concerns.

However, these checks on documents etc. should be done before IA stage and not after things have been cleared.

Sharon, I guess your fiance is from Africa; which has even more dubious record of fraud. Nigeria scam, etc. does that mean that all candidates from Africa will have to go through the same level of BG checks?

There are several universities in India which have a well known reputation all over the world. If you qualify and have been approved authencity by ministry of education, then you should be allowed without such a wait.

But then, this is how CIC runs,.

My fiance is from northern Africa... making him Arab. whole other set of concerns.

I must get 3 emails a week from companies selling educational diplomas. from what I hear it sometimes comes down to being an expert about the paper a university prints its documents on.

Backgroung Checking takes time and money. No point in doing any of it unless the applicant gets through the qualification gate - IA!
