Subject: delaying entry to Canada
My wife´s PR is about to be approved. Problem is we don´t want to go just yet. We could go just before the deadline for entry is about to expire, but it could only be for just a couple of days. If we delay a few months we can go for a couple of weeks. Waste of money (xmas season travel is outrageous), waste of time (17 hours of flying one way), waste of energy (bringing a little baby too).
Does anyone know if we can delay our (well ´her´ really) deadline to enter Canada and how do we go about doing that?
Many thanks.

Your visa expires 12 month after you medical test date.

So you HVAE to land on of before that date.

The only way to do it is just to land say 4 -5 days bfore the expiry.

Thats all

No delays allowed. You must land before it expires.
This process is long and hard and is based on CIC´s rules...not based on when it is good for the applicant.
Land for a day or two and then return later. That seems to be the best bet here.
If she really wants to be part of Canada, you will "waste money, time and energy" to complete the process.

Good luck

I agree, if it requires that you spend the money to land then leave, but bear in mind your spouse will need the PR card to return to Canada.

You have too choices:
1) Spent the money and the time to arrive when you need to
2) Spent more money to re-apply

If you onlyhave a visitor´s visa and you´re not waiting for PR or anything, no, of course you can´t overstay your time.

You apply for an extension by going to the CIC´s website and downloading a form to extend your status in Canada. However, I would be surprised if it is accepted because you have had since May 05 to go to Canada and you declined the offer (no matter what the reason). And without a good reason for extending it they won´t do it because it looks like you´re working under the table or doing things you´re not supposed to be doing. After all, it´s only a visitor´s visa!

how long to stay? (in reply to: delaying entry to Canada)
Some of you have commented that my wife needs to stay for 4 or 5 days. We were thinking she would stay for a day, maybe two, and then return.
Is there a reason to stay longer?

shortest stay to get PR visa in passport (in reply to: delaying entry to Canada)
Hi all.
Just wondering how short of a stay is possible for my wife to get the PR visa in her passport.
We were thinking, if possible, instead of going across the Pacific to the east coast (where my family is) with the little one in tow, she would stop down in Vancouver, get the PR thingy, then hop on a flight back across the Pacific.
Shaves a total of 14 hours of airport and airplane time off of things. Bites for time with family. Eats up a lot of money, but cheaper in the end as far as total cost goes. Makes for a veeery long day, but she has short holidays only anyway.
Does anyone know, can she just stop in the airport, get the PR stamp (or whatever it is) and head back to Asia?
Cheers everyone.

My medical was cleared in Aug. 2005 after the approval of my immigration to Canada. I was given two dead lines ( by visa section)to send the passports for visa endorsement which I could not comply.

Can I still send the passports for visa endorsement and complete the process to land into Canada before Aug. 2006 (i.e., within one year after the medical check up).

Thank you for the advice and reply
