where are you now ?If in Canada, you need a study permit to stay once you are inside.no need of visa unless you want ot go out of canada to any country other than US. You can bring your spouse and kids with you while you are on student visa

student visa is given to the student with the purpose in mind that student is suppose to return back in his home country after study .
Probable immigration donot get student visa ?
by the way how come you engage yourself in two cases
at same time . Is it allowed ? i dont think so

AFARIN, I had asked about this once and the response that I got was that you can apply for student visa. You can also get a student dependant visa. I have had a friend who also got a visitors visa to go to Canada and return while his immigration was being processed. I guess its a case by case scenario and also depends on what stage of the immigration process you are in , although there is a high chance of them turning you away as a potential immigrant
