Subject: HRDC confirmation - labor market opinion
Has anyone who had only 1 year of work experience applied for a temporary work permit and tried to get an HRDC confirmation?

My post-grad permit will expire next year and my company is willing to sponsor. What is the possibility that I will get and HRDC confirmation? Please help!

DB: It depends on where you are located. If you are from Toronto your Post-grad work permit is valid only for a year. You cannot get a 2 year permit. The same goes for Montreal I think. New Grad, better do some thorough research on this. Info is available on the cic website.

Hi New Grad,

The possibility of getting an HRDSC confirmation in your case depends on how compelling your case is presented. One thing your company is required to demonstrate is the effort to hire a Canadian for your position, which will not be the case since you have been working there already. Your application needs to stress your qualifications (fall under an NOC classification high enough), match the pay for the position and colorfully describe the dire consequences if you have to leave the company. I suggest contacting a consultant to look over the application. The confirmation process may take about 2 months and you will probably have to apply for a work visa outside of Canada. Budget about 3-4 months at least for the process to be completed.

Good luck,

- Max
