do you really think if there was a double agent lurking around this site that they would take the time to answer questions... or do you think they would simply watch and record IP addresses of people they want to report.

Come on... I know it is Saturday and the wait is getting long and it is winter and and and but give Canada credit - it has far more important things to do than to troll websites.

I agree with you that it would be really nice if we could get prompt clear answers in the same way we do at the grocery counter but it ain´t going to happen. My guess is that the immigration department is getting as much money as the Canadian taxpayer is willing to give it, and they aren´t about to open the gates much wider to get rid of the huge backlogs. So it is a matter of survival of the most patient.

I have written in other posts my ideas of what they could do different but they have not called me up yet and said ´great idea´.

I kinda doubt that there is anyone waiting at the other end of the phone in Australia either to answer your inquiry.

You guys and this IP address myth. You don´t need to be scared about CIC finding out about you. Canadian privacy laws -at the moment- do not allow the release of information regarding people and their address.

You can tell CIC and all the CHC offices overseas to fuck right off and there isn´t a damn thing they can investigate.

This IP thing is still only a great conspiracy theory.

Not sure what the IP myth is...but then how does one find out the identity of the person from just the IP?

I m sure CIC has better things to do.

Your ISP(internet service provider) has a record of all their customers IP´s. Thats how they can hook you up and bill you. But currently they are legally not allowed to release this info.

I´m sure a court order or warrent might be of help, but I highly doubt CIC has the time or need for this and I very, very, very highly doubt a judge would actually grant this. People here only slander(if that) CIC. It would take a hell of a lot more than that to get a signed court order or warrent.

I am not a computer wizard, but IPs are usually dynamic. Hence, even if they get a court order to track an IP, it can only be done during a live session.

Any computer experts here?

So starwars, now we have a CIC employee spying on us. To what end? What would be the purpose? Who would be affected by it? Which section of the immigration department do they spy for, family class, SW, refugee? Or do we just have one spy who covers all the different departments, looking for information about the hundreds of thousands of applicants a year and trying to cross reference application details with the posts on forums?

CIC can´t even match a fax or mailed document to your file if you don?t include your full name and or file #. How the #*&^ are they going to mach who you are from postings on a web board, when they don´t know who you are to start with, and file that information to the correct processing office/processing officer?

Spy: (calling ________ ) Hi do you have an applicant processing at that office?

Office: Yes, we have about 20,000 files open at the moment, would you like family class, or SW?

Spy: SW please.

Office: Well that lowers it to 13,543 cases. What details can you give me.

Spy: The guy said he lied about being married.

Office: we have 4587 unmarried applicants which one would you like?

Spy: he applied on december 3rd

Office: That still leaves us with 86 applicants.

Spy: well, that´s all I could get from the web board.

Office: ok thanks, I´ll just pick one at random and %^$# up his life.

I think CIC has better things to do with their time. How many hours do you think they are going to waste with this procedure? Starwars, your educated so where are you getting this stuff from? We´re supposed to be helping each other on this forum not trying to spread rumors.

ME, a dynamic IP can be traced. It is allocated to a user name and the user has to register his account (and give his address to his IP). So all that is needed to get an address from an IP is the IP address and the time.

Some countries have internet cards where you buy a card and use it to log on. They are 100% anonymous. But any account based service has all of your information. Just ask the RIAA(for americans).

If you are an applicant and not in canada then CIC is not bound by the constitution. Until you are a PR you have NO legal status in canada. (unless you are on Canadian soil). This means they can get information any way they see fit as long as it doesn´t violate international law. ( I may be wrong but that´s the way I understand it)

90% of people have no idea what freedom of speech is, it isn´t the right to say whatever you want when ever you want. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_of_speech ( I´m not saying you don´t know what is is but thought it might be a good read for some others on this site.)

173.199 I am trying to envision the spy/cic conversation. how long do you think it would take CIC to tell the spy the number of unmarried applicants in the system. You would be on hold for months!

I know Starwars is frustrated. We have all been there- or are still there. You look at the wait times and think you can do it... but then reality hits and the entire process stinks.

173.199,

You should remember that Canada isn´t the only Country with a constitution, other Countries have them too and the citizens of those Countries also have rights as we do. Therfore CIC can´t get info anyway they see fit. This is probably one of the biggest reasons for long background check processing. Also, putting international laws and treaties aside, its not very good public / political relation practices.

As for the spy, it looks like we completely agree, its just not feasible or productive. That part about not being able to match faxes & mail to the right file couldn´t be any further from the truth. As I´ve said before, CIC is ran like a kindergarten, by kindergarteners.
