Secret agent from another country instead of Canada might hunt you down on the forum.
Not sure if they have ability to check IP in Canada.

But I can tell you, there are tons of spy agent from another country in Canada, they pay attention to their own citizen´s comment, if their citizen made attack comment to their own country on-line, they might not able to renew passport next time.

When I was at college, some dudes from my own country asked me if I am willing to pay attention to guy A, B, C, record down what they said and comment towards our country and report to him, I will get reward. My balls were sweating, I scare to the ass!!!
I just refused.

However, I do know, I CAN´T SAY TOO MUCH ABOUT MY COUNTRY, PEOPLE DO MONITOR HERE, not Canadian, my own fellow citizen spies!!

not kidding guys!!!!!! don´t try to be smart

If you are right, it simply doesn´t matter. People here aren´t bad mouthing their native countries as you suggested. They are bad mouthing Canada. So there is no worry of these mysteries spies hunting you down.

I was bad month on a forum in my homecountry when I was 17 years old in a public library. I was escorted away by secret agent who monitors in a public library with all the people looking at me. I was crying all the time, just wanna see my parents when I was arrested, because I was young, no idea if i will be ended up in a labour camp or what!

I didn´t tell CIC in PR that I was arrested because of bad month!!!

you guys should be extremely happy, because nobody will kick your door and arrest you for being bad month to Canada

LOL, you guys are too much. If you knew anything about how the internet works, you´d know there is NOTHING personally identifying about an IP address. All is does is tell you the ISP, the owner of the netblock. On a big server (AOL for example), that could cover thousands of people and several geographical locations. In order to find out WHO has that particular IP number, it would have to be by subpoena to the ISP, and such court-ordered action is only granted in cases of death threats and terrorist activity. Nobody really cares about Canadian PR applicants, sorry!

Any idiot with an internet connection can look up an IP address on a public whois search, but the IP´s here are USELESS with the first class of octets censored out, as that identifies the network.

CHILL!

In some countries "big brother" is always watching. After Sept 11th and the bombings around the world even the western world has taken note. In the US, the "patriot act" is very controversial. The US have electronic surveillance, monitoring what they call "chatter" -in the name of National Security.

We are just a poor old forum exchanging views and tips on Canadian immigration. No one is going to implicate us for anything, especially good old Canada....unless... Joseph McCarthy who died in the US is reborn in Canada :)

FWChelle,

Thats exactly what I´ve been trying to explain in these recent posts, but people just can´t get off the idea that there are spies around here that are soon coming to there doors and either kicking them out of Canada, or stopping there process.

not only can´t CIC get info on IPs (because its illegal in Canada), but CIC is way to inefficiant to do something like this. Lastly, any info they obtained would never stand up in court. They don´t have physical proof it was you typing the message.

I can´t believe the paranoia. I can´t believe I keep replying to this paranoia.

They find the kiddie porn stored on the harddrive because the police have been tipped off or by accident from investigations in other crimes. Also, other Countries don´t have the same privacy laws as Canada.

The US is a good example when downloading music. Canadian ISP are still protected by law. In the US the music industry is fighting this so that they can find the people. Canadians are still protected on this downloading issue. For now anyways.

Sharon, kiddie porn would be just cause for a subpoena, and I believe it has to come at a federal level. In these cases, the ISP´s would be legally obligated to provide personal user information to the RCMP, then they would enter the home with a search warrant and physically confiscate the computer.

But as for ´catching´ people saying things on message boards, unless it´s for some VERY serious criminal activity, forget it. Timothy is right, and I´ve seen things like this before in slander/libel/copyright cases. Even if the person is able to get a subpoena, they have to prove it was THAT person using the computer at the time the posts were made. There´s also jurisdictional issues, like the location of the ISP of the user and webhost of the server the material was posted on, and what rules fall under what jurisdiction. It´s a VERY gray area. It costs thousands of dollars in legal fees and court time to fight and prove things like this. I´d like to say we´re all THAT important, but we´re not. Get over yourselves.

In a world of pedophilia, terrorism, fraud, organized crime and other criminal activity, what the people here think and say about their respective countries are a NON-ISSUE.
