"Scope"s are hard to predict. Exploration is the best "creativity"!

I do some commercial webdesign as a supplementary source of income, but I wouldn´t depend on it for a primary income.

As someone in the field, I can tell you your skill level and the number of mainstream programs you have mastered (not necessarily how many years of experience you have) will play a huge part in how successful you are.

I know of people (newcomers) who struggle to find jobs in the field, I also know of people who charge $150 an hour and have no problem finding clients.

Umm, no. This really is one field where a lot more depends on how good you are and less about luck. All luck has to do with it is decide how long before you get a break.

The hot-shot designer I mentioned in my previous post? He was an award-winning creative director, first in India, then Hong Kong. It took him a couple of months to get his foot in the door, by the 4th month he was in a $75,000/year job, by his third year he was confident enough to quit and start up on his own.

The not-so-great designers I spoke of? They are now doing quite well for themselves too, just not in the design field. They had to find jobs in banking and manufacturing and worked their way up from there.

Typo... perfect answer. CIC only asks if you have education and experience. They do not ask if you are any good! Another difficulty is style. If a designer cannot adapt to the western style of design... there are not good work propsects. Anyone in the marketing and design industry needs to be realistic about transferable skills.
