Subject: McGill vs York vs UWO
I am in deferred acceptance to these three universities to study political science. I am from Nova Scotia so i want to chnage my atmosphere and have a great university experience. I like big cities but I want to feel part of a university and have alot of campus life. I heard all these three universities are great (even though macleans mixes the comparison thing). I have heard from many ppl not to go to UWO or even to York. They told me Mcgill is better and I will like the campus more. What do you think?

Definitely pick York - their pol sci department has better reputation than the other two schools.

Yes, pick York. It is the most respected university in Canada.

Are you crazy, how can you say that Western is a better university than McGill. McGill is the best university in Canada. I would go to universities like dalhousie, York and UBC before I will even consider Western. Partying to Hip hop is not the end all and be all of going to a university.

York U and McGill U are great univerities. The students and the programs are what are their strengths. York has really strong academics and great profs and McGill has a great science faculty and medical research.

I never really hear much about UWO other than it has a nice campus.

I am an international student (well from the U.S) and a big factor that drew me to York and McGill was the amount of international students they have. York has over 2200 and McGill has about 2400. I think UWO has about 1000.

In the 2004 Top 500 Universities in the World Rankings , both McGill and York were ranked but UWO did not make it. McGill was higher up than York however.

DO NOT GO TO WESTERN............ YOU WILL REGRET IT< NOT A GOOD PLACE BE IN, NOT VERY RESPECTABLE IN TERMS OF ITS FACULTY AND THE STUDENTS HERE ARE REALLY STUPID. ACTUALLY, ALOT OF THEM ARE OK BUT IT IS A BAD MIX BETWEEN THE ONES WHO ARE SERIOUS AND THE ONES WHO WANT TO FOOL AROUND AND CAUSE TROUBLE AND HAVE FUN ONLY.

To the post above:-

I believe I am correct. On the ranking, it said York University (Canada) and not The University of York which is in the UK. You see, there is a difference in the two and it may be quite hard to mistake them (for me at least).

Anyway, carry on and thanks for looking out. You are so cool!

York has one of the top poli sci depts in Canada; McGill and Western aren´t particularly known for poli sci. That being said, at the undergrad level Western and McGill have stronger reputations overall. It depends if you care more about dept. reputation (York) or overall reputation (McGill and Western). If you want to go to grad school in poli sci someday, remember doing your undergrad and grad in the same dept is generally discouraged
