Subject: Engineering class: easy at York or Ryerson?
Hi

I am from the US and working in Canada. I need to take an upper division computer engineering class.

Since I work fulltime, I really have no inclination to spend too much time on this.

Would it be easier to take the class at Ryerson or York? It´s Embedded Microprocessors, in case it interests anyone.

Thanks!

I agree Ryerson is more hands on - it is polytechnical University after all.

Engineering in Toronto universities:

1)U of T is the best (the largest and oldest)
2)York- smaller classes and a more diverse student population.
3) Ryerson-not highly respected and lacks the funding such as in York and U of Toronto.

I have friends in all three universities and they all knock Ryerson because it is not really a ´university´ but rather a college, but if you disregard that, you can actually do well in the environment. It is all up to you!

So everyone agrees Ryerson is the easier place to take an engineering class?

RYE-HIGH also knows as Ryerson is not known for anything that is hard. I think UoFT or York will give you better results after graduation.
Ryerson has no campus-literally and all the students are commuters-the atmosphere is very college. It is also rated very poorly among the universities in primarly undergraduate category. York is rated 8th and UofT is 1st. Make your choice based on that.

I say go to UofT....I do not regret it and I am in engineering.

York U is rated very highly in engineering as well as its many other faculties. One reason why it is not as reputed as Waterloo and UofT is because unlike those ´enginerring powerhouse schools´, York is very strong in other faculties namely Business(Schulich rated best for undergrad business and top 20 in the world for Post-Grad), Law(Osgoode rated 2nd in Canada), Political Science(best in Canada), Fine Arts(one of the most competitive in North America) and Economics (largest econ faculty and many York profs publish books used in many uni´s in Canada and USA) and English and Humanities are also strong faculties.

Maybe Engineering is not their best strength but it is very reputable and contrary to that moran who posted above, is recognized by the Government of Canada. In fact, York was given 4 research chairs (out of 20) for university research. Now Ryerson, how much did you get?

I agree with the post above, Ryerson is like a college. Enough said. I would rather graduate from York than Ryerson. Thats why it was rated 6th on the Gourman Report of Canadian Universities and Ryerson was rated 48th.

Go to http://studywonder.com/canada_uni.htm

And, as for the campus location-it may not be downtown Toronto, but at least there is a campus life present The result is a higher student pride and community spirit. Ask any York student-or in fact, ask any Ryerson or UofT student-they seem to be in the York´s campus for pub nights.

uhuh so that must be why york´s engineering class has a 70´s average. And why the hell are they so cheap that they don´t even give you a proper student ID Card. What kind of a school gives you a PIECE OF PAPER FOR A STUDENT CARD AND THEN ASKS YOU TO PAY $30 FOR A PLASTIC ONE????

LOL http://studywonder.com/canada_uni.htm is a really ´accurate´ ranking idiot... UWindsor, the school with the lowest entrance average in CANADA, is ranked #15 in Canada!!!! Above Western Ontario at #16, Queens University at #21 (The school with the highest entrance average in Canada), and Waterloo at #22!!!! LOL!!!!! THIS PROVES YORKERS ARE ALL IDIOTS!!!
