York is inferior than U of T for sure in terms of almost everything. I was a student both at U of T and York and I totally understand the feeling of being a York student. In general, York students have very low self-esteem and don´t have enough self-confidence. They have already proved themselves about this on this forum. In the academic world of Toronto, U of T definitely rules. It is a great research powerhouse with excellent faulty, facilities and very, very outstanding scholors and students.

For short,
University of Toronto > York
and I hope you students should concentrate on your studies rather than debating or defending your school. Maybe you will have your graduate studies or research at UofT someday later but remember your GPA should maintain a minimum standing of A- (4.0) or A (8.0) in York scale.

Yorks reputation for under grad higher education is droping pretty quickly. In this year´s Macleans it has fallen below Ryerson in most categories, proving Ryerson is now officially the second best University in the GTA. Don´t be to happy Ryerson, you are still have a lot of catching up to get to U of T´s Standard.

Still don´t understand why York Students attempt to prove their superiority to U of T, when the two schools are not in the same league. They need to take their heads out of cloud 9. If you want to be viewed as brilliant come to U of T or go to Ryerson!

York is not as bad as everyone makes it seem.campus life is second to none in Toronto. I will admit it is difficult to get a summer job in your field, my friends at Ryerson were working at Sprint and ATI over the summer making like $15 and $18 dollars per hour, while I was at Shopper drugmart as a cashier making $8 per hour :(. I am pretty sure after graduation next april it will be different ;). If I had to do it again I would choose York, I know too many people that got kicked out of First year and second year at Uoft and ryerson, at least I am going to graduate!!!

^ Just from the poster right above me, we can see the quality of York graduates.
It is a good reference for employers and guidances.

Re: "York University = Embarrassing", editorial, Oct. 5, 2005

I couldn´t help but be amused by Ms. Wong´s meanderings in her editorial on Oct. 5, 2005 entitled, "York University = Embarassing".

If she is so convinced that this university is "a school full of D-class students", then you have to ask the question - why is she still enrolled here? Surely, someone who can see all of York´s failings so clearly and objectively would come to the conclusion that at least from the perspective of self-interest she would have transferred out a long time ago. Yet, she apparently still plans to work toward getting her degree from York. Curious, to say the least.

I doubt very much that her attitude is typical of the vast majority of the student body here. In fact, I know it isn´t. You just have to pay attention to the daily announcements about the many and varied accomplishments of faculty, students and alumni as well the ongoing university initiatives (not the least of which is the lobbying for the subway to be extended to York in part dealing with ?York Parking´ issues) to realize that York is thriving and evolving in its never-ending pursuit of excellence and continuous improvement. It saddens me to read such a cynical diatribe from one so young.

Finally, I would be curious to know what she does personally to contribute to the community and to improving York´s reputation. And by the way, given that she presumably will be looking for a job after graduation, she should be aware that put down skills and negative attitudes are not valued highly by prospective employers.

Being a York student myself, I also find I have problems admitting I attend York. I tend to disagree with the above statement, most of fellow students kinda wish they did not come to York, and it is truly a hassel to transfer out. Ryerson now has a better reputation than York University for undergraduate education, They seem to be doing something about their reputation, they have just hired Sheldon Levy as their President and Vice Chancellor, a former Vice President at U of T. I am kinda glad that Lorna Marsden is retiring, she has done nothing for our university rep. but placed us third, out of 3 universities in the GTA. Hopfully they can get someone from U of T, or Queens, etc. Hang in Yorks students, we can´t get much lower than this. Hoping to get a job when I graduate.

Frankly, I would like to transfer to U of T after I´ve finished my first year at York. But I heard that U of T requires a B average for transfer students from another institutions. Anyway, if I could just be placed to UTSC, I would go there too. All I want is to leave this shitty school.
You people know what, being a York student is just a shame and made me have a low self-esteem.

For those current university applicants, please reconsider again if you´ve made York as your first choice.

John Molson Rocks! Concordia Pride!

Concordia´s roots date back over 100 years, so please don´t compare York to Concordia.

Concordia´s downtown campus is next to the coolest street in Canada: Crescent St., while York´s main campus is next to a ghetto (Jane and Finch St.)

Concordia´s chancellor is Eric Molson of Molson Corporation, and the president of Concordia is a well-accomplished leader in Claude Lajeunesse.

How good is York´s leadership team?

Concordia (John Molson) consistently beats McGill in business competitions, and Concordia has a superior football and basketball team compared to McGill.

Does York kick U of T´s butt on a regular basis in academic and athletic competitions?
