Subject: Graduate studies in EE, your suggestions are need
Hi every body I´m an international student and I would like to study electrical engineering at graduate level; my undergraduate GPA is 3.86 out of 4.00.
I like to complete my studies in communications.
How do you rate these universities?
Alberta University
Concordia University
UBC University
Queen´s University
Victoria University
Is there any university you suggest?

I would strongly suggest you consider the University of Waterloo or the University of Toronto. I have an undergrad degree in Electrical Engineering from Ryerson, and I am currently in my last semester of Communications and Information Systems, leading to a MASc at the university of Waterloo. I know for a fact that the University of Toronto has a strong graduate program in Communications. All other universities you mentioned have great Grad programs, however, for Electrical Engineering, they really do not compare to Waterloo or U of T.

Best Regards.

Thank you for your replying,
But how is the graduate program in waterloo and U of T? I mean is it difficult to get good grades and enjoy the life at the same time.
I heared a lot about the goodness of the electrical engineering program at waterloo and U of T, but in fact, I don´t like see myself to be an average student there because I think all the students there are like me or better. From this point of view I choose to study at a university where I can show my self easily and at the same time has a good graduate electrical engineering program.

Regards,

I have a difficult time enjoying life at this program. You are right, you will find some of canada´s smartest electrical engineering students at these schools.

Wow, impressive GPA! You should make sure you visit the campuses of these Universities before taking a decision. You should meet with profs and stuff like that. IM sure each University has information session and the like. Here is my attempt at pushing for ConU. ConU has a new engineering building smack in the building of Montreal on one of the busiest streets in Montreal (ste-catherine). Honestly, the building is gorgeous and it is only for graduate students! I think Concordia has the most graduate students in engineering of all Canadian schools, but I do not know if quantity=quality. In terms of reputation, Concordia is not up there with Waterloo, and UofT, or even Mcgill, but that is changing. With your GPA, you should have no problems getting into UofT or Waterloo.

For more info about Concordia and its new building, check this out:

Good luck.

I would go to Victoria or Vancouver since that´s the only places you would not freeze your butt off. Alberta is too cold!

UBC in Vancouver would be my first choice and Victoria 2nd.

Vancouver is the prettiest city in Canada, and if you prefer a small city, go to Victoria, but UBC is much better in research.

Thank you guys for replying
You are really showing up an important issue to me which is the weather. Usually the temperature in the place I live in cannot go less than +2 degrees.
How is the weather in Montreal?
Is there anybody from Concordia?

I use to go to montreal for a year. It´s amazing during the summer/spring, but cold as hell in the winter. But it´s like that in Toronto, Ottawa, etc. If you want warmer, go to Victoria or UBC

I´m now 80% take the decision to go to Concordia
Its new building is amazing. I think it is well prepared and have excellent and new equipments in the labs.
At the same time I think, it is not that difficult to get good grades at Concordia
