Subject: How is UWaterloo?
I am an international and just got accepted in UWaterloo as an Honour´s student with co-op (both in Computer Science and Mathematics). I know of its reputation and quality but what I would like to know is how is life in Waterloo? Is it a party school? How much can I be paid per co-op? I have got into some pretty highly ranked U.S. universities such as the University of Virginia and the University of North Carolina. I am having a hard time to choose. Plus, more importantly, will I be eligible for any scholarship if I do well in my freshman year?

Did you get rejected by Lakehead? Waterloo is a good uni., but compared to Lkehead, it is not so good.

1)how is life in Waterloo? Is it a party school?
I´ll address these two questions together. UW has a reputation of being a nerdy school. People who attend UW are more interested in doing well in university, rather than blow their parents´ money on partying 24/7. If you like a good work environment, UW definitely has that. Although the party scene is not as big as many of the other universities, it does have its wild side (which is rather mild).

2)How much can I be paid per co-op?
Well, it depends on the job you get. You can earn anywhere between 400-1000 a week, depending on your year, the type of program you´re in, who you work for, etc.

3) will I be eligible for any scholarship if I do well in my freshman year?
There are scholarships in subsequent years for sure, but I don´t know how it works for international students.

I don´t know about UNC, but I do know that UV is pretty good. If you plan on pursuing postgraduate studies, then your undergraduate degree doesn´t really matter. If not, then decide between UW and UV depending on where you want to work. If you´re staying in Canada, UW; the States, UV; your home country, it depends on which one is more well-known there.

It is good, like 4th or 6th just below Lakehead University.
