Subject: UofT is UNDERFUNDED
This is an inevitable problem in an underfunded institution, which U of T always has been and always will be.

"We are definitely underfunded. Especially at the University of Toronto,"

http://www.newsandevents.utoronto.ca/bin2/020128b.asp

That question brings up a fundamental problem: Canadian universities are underfunded compared to their international counterparts. Local perceptions seem to be that U of T is rich. However, relative to our peers ? the top public universities in the United States, western Europe and Japan ? we are woefully underfunded.

Good post: inflammatory headings, factually neutral.

UofT will never be underfunded.

Why?
Remember, 11,000 first-year students. UofT gets the freshmen´s tuition fee and subsidize the graduate school and research.

In comparison to Universities in the US, of course!

Here in Canada, we are by far the richest. But we should still deserve more money. Just imagine if Canadian Universities had the kind of money top US schools have!

well, you can look at it by endowment

in terms of total endowment, UofT has the most
on a per student basis that goes to Queen´s and McGill

Canadian universities in general are terribly underfunded. But it´s that much more impressive when some of our universities like UBC, UofT, McGill place higher in international rankings than certain US schools, yet have a fraction of the endowment.

Well, that´s probably because grade inflation is rampant in top US universities, especially the Ivy League ones, so students from Canadian universities generally fare better than their US counterparts I guess?

While McGill has $25,000 for each student, UofT has lower than $20,000. So they are really really underfunded. It is like a barn, not a university.

Actually, the comment about UofT´s research is wrong; McGill´s professors has the most funding per faculty in Canada. (See Reserch Inf. Inc.)
