Subject: Rogers Cup @ York!! #2 |
This is an unbiased article from the Toronto Star. Here are some key points.
-Tennis Canada, which is celebrating the 125th anniversary of the tournament this year, has sold out of television advertising space, generating $1.6 million in revenue for the men´s and women´s events, up from about $1 million last year. (The men´s and women´s events are rotated every year between Toronto and Montreal.)
-Advance box office sales are also up over last year. Organizers were targeting $8.3 million, but Wood figures the tournament will likely generate closer to $9 million ? a record."
-In fact, there has been so much demand for retail and corporate space this year, organizers have run out of room.
"There´s no where else to go," says Wood, who estimates the tournament will take in a record $1 million simply from renting booths at the men´s and women´s tennis events.
Tennis Canada says the average household income of ticket buyers is about $166,000 for the Toronto tournament and $144,000 for the Montreal event.
Additionally, do u expect people to take a day and go to the stadium to watch tennis? Most people work. Its friggin 3´o clock on a Wednesday afternoon.

(in reply to: Rogers Cup @ York!! #2) No, buddy, look at the whole stadium, not just the front row seats and seats right behind the players.
There are plenty of empty seats on the side and further back.
