Subject: Cognitive Psychology Undergrad - What University?
I´m going to be applying into Psych in Nov. for Sept.2007. I went to the university fair, talked to most of the universities and I´m currently looking at three schools: York, Toronto and McMaster. Which of these would be better and why? Also do all of these universities offer Specialist Degrees?

What I know so far:
University of Toronto has a more scientific approach to the faculty (under lifesciences).
University of York has a more social sciences approach.
And McMaster falls somewhere in between.

I don´t feel that you can base your decision on which university to go to by simply looking at rankings. A ranking gives you an overall idea, by statistics about the university. It does nothing to tell you about specific programs. In addition, what i don´t like about U of T is the HUGE class sizes.

If you don´t like HUGE class sizes then study psych at a university other than UofT. The giant pscyh/social science 1st year classes are what gives UofT its rep for big classes overall. By second year it dips back down though. Try looking at the course calendars and seeing which school offers the stuff you like.

I agree, a ranking like THES does not give you any idea about whether McGill is good at Cog. Sci. or not.

However, in Cog. Sci. , believe me, McGill is one of the top in the world competing with universities like MIT. Their Cog. Sci. is prolly the top. UofT, on the other hand, is also really good at Cog. Sci., but definitely not top tier like McGill.

^ That´s funny, because McGill´s CogPsych course selection is unimpressive at best. SFU has a wider range, to say nothing of York and UofT. Unless you´re talking about McGill´s grad level but that´s not the OP´s question.

Is the McGill fanboi going to start claiming that every one of their programs is the best? Programs at McGill are good but they´re not the *best*....... unless you´ve got some evidence to the contrary.

to be quite honest, there is no such evidence that could prove that McGill or any university is the best at anything.
