Subject: ON NEWSWEEK RANKINGS
According to the rankings of Newsweek, University of Washington is better than NYU, better than Carnegie Mellon, better than Brown, better than LSE, better than Johns Hopkins, better than Darthmouth, etc. etc... WHO, ON EARTH, WOULD BELIEVE THIS OTHER THAN TORONTIANS?

Indeed, Darthmouth does not even make it to the list!!! In this type of rankings, which totally ignore prestige or peer review, but base their decidion on "number" of articles, "number" of books, "number" of good researchers, small schools HAVE TO lose while huge schools like Texas, Washington or UofT, no matter how bad they are, will win.

All it is is a mix of SJTU and THES, so why are you bitching? It has your beloved THES ranking incorporated into it, which by the way, dedicates 50% of the ranking to reputation based on less than 1300 respondents opinions.

Newsweek claims they are a mix between SJTU and THES. But if you look closely, Newsweek almost parallels SJTU and has little correspondance with THES.

I agree with the last comment. Even though they claim to use THES´ criteria too, they actually do not. Coz they do not use any peer or recruiter review.

I am the OP btw. Oh also, peer review would help UofT too. So UofT fanboys dont need to cry. The thing, however, is that the ranking would then be much more credible.

It doesn´t matter who and how a ranking list is put together, someone would still find an excuse to reject it.
